axe96bam 0 #26 March 20, 2002 yeah, I guess you need to make sure you are stopped before you put your foot into the snow. I also hate the fact that the first couple of jumps in snow each season it is harder to judge how high you are and when to start your flare. I guess good thing for me is that I usually flare a bit high on those occasions as opposed to flaring late.Alex
Sebazz1 2 #27 March 20, 2002 I had a friend go up to Chicago to work on some planes at SDC and he did a jump in the snow and showed us the video. When he first looked down I asked if he was above clouds?! It was just the gound. I would imagine depth perception would be off........Sebazz......... axe96bam 0 #28 March 20, 2002 Oh yeah it is, and everything looks way different when covered with snow. Your typical landmarks might not be visible because they are covered.
Iflyme 0 #29 March 21, 2002 Quoteit is freezing up there. Agreed. Last jump I did (last Saturday) it was -20c at 10 grand... I only felt the cold when the door opened (C-182) ... In freefall I'm never aware of the cold , but sometimes my hands -- or should I say my fingers get a bit cold under canopy. I've only got to land in the snow once, but that was way cool. Everything looks so different from above when it's all white everywhere. Hooked, Favaks -- I think we are in for more snow tonight (I'm in Victoria) ... it's damn cold out there right now. When you live next to the ocean, the cold is different that it is towards the middle of the continent. I know lots of people here who lived on the prairies, in Ontario, up north, etc, and they all say 0c here feels like -15c where they are from. It's the humidity. Same for the snow ... everywhere else the snow is usually rather dry and powdery, but here on the coast, it is usually thick and wet, and makes for VERY slippery road conditions... axe96bam 0 #31 March 21, 2002 It is supposed to be above freezing here so hopefully it is jumpable. I would not mind even doing hop-n-pops as long as I am jumping.Alex
hooked 0 #32 March 21, 2002 Funny! We just had the lawn service out this morning, and now the lawn is covered with snow! Yeah, happy spring! Geez, I'm tired of this. Just 2 1/2 more weeks and I get a week in Phoenix!J
