FallRate 0 #1 March 25, 2002 I know that titles are based on the number of posts, but seeing as Bill Booth is posting here at DZ.com, is there any chance his title can be changed to something more appropriate. Other than being a matter of respect, any person not familiar with Mr. Booth's contributions to this sport and vast knowledge of the subject might overlook some very important advice when they see him listed as "newbie". I posted this in the feedback section, but I just wanted to make sure it was seen to at least let everyone know that Mr. Booth is posting here! freeflyguy 0 #2 March 25, 2002 Yah, agreed. Anybody that can say "I have easily broken away my main during a high wind landing at the North Pole" has probably been around skydiving for a while. But that aint the half of it. If you have done a tandem you owe him your life. How about "Industry Inovator" instead of Newbie? But I doubt he cares anyway. mountainman 0 #3 March 25, 2002 Hehehe....yeah, I like the "industry innovator" title. Or perhaps he could be "3-ring master". Good thread/idea!JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.

skyhawk 2 #5 March 25, 2002 normaly i would say that stupid its only an internet states based on post not jumps, but in your situation i could see new jumpers thinking hes talking outa his arse :)Opinions are like a-holes everyone has one, the only one that does you any good is yours and all that comes out is shit

prost 0 #7 March 25, 2002 I personally like the system of naming people by how many posts they have, even though I have more jumps than posts. But I do see your point about confusing newbies.William

AndyMan 7 #11 March 25, 2002 Bill isn't the first skydiver celebrity to come on here and be called a "newbie" - he certainly won't be the last.Bill just needs to be a post whore, answering all of our questions, until he gets off "newbie" status.Actually, now that I think about it... there seems to be an inverse relationship between the number of posts and the users skydiving ability, so maybe this is a good thing?_AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
Lindsey 0 #12 March 25, 2002 Yeah.....but think.....if it weren't for him we may still be yanking on those capewells or whatever they were called every time we cut away! Imagine that under your VX 75!!!!! YIKES! This man is WAAAAY beyond skydiving celebrity status....celebrity is just so slutty. No....Booth is definately at the very least the Lord of the 3 Rings. Even the guy who mistakenly thought that Booth made his new Mirage should know that much of the technology in that new Mirage originated from said Lord of the 3 rings..... don't be too quick to minimize these accomplishments....==8-0LindseyEve was framed! DZDale 0 #15 March 25, 2002 In Reply to: "Then you are going to have to change all the people who are veterens and addicts who are on student status."I agree 100%, Ive seen people with "Addict" and "Veteran" status, go back to their profiles and they barely have 20 jumps ! I think it should be based of Jump numbers.DaleA man's dreams are an index to his greatness.- Zadok Rabinwitz

FallRate 0 #17 March 25, 2002 I have no problem with the idea of titles being based on post numbers. I just started thinking that newcomers to the sport, who post valid questions on this site, might be better served if they were made aware that certain individuals' opinions are more valid than others. (I would hope that most people believe this to be true.) This doesn't apply only to Bill Booth, but to other individuals such as RiggerRob. In Rob's case it seems to have been a good idea to make him a moderator in the Gear and Rigging Forum. Not a big deal...just a thought.FallRate
PhreeZone 20 #18 March 25, 2002 Rob's not a Moderator.... Only SkyBytch,Quade, BillVon, Alan, SkyMonkeyONE and Sangiro are in charge. While my jump numbers are really low (285), I think that durning my rigging training I've learned some things to help others with basic questions. Where would you draw the line? You must be known by X people off the site? Most non Rec. people don't know Craig Poxon, but hes a little genius with his GPS and birdman suit. Should we ignore him because he only has a couple of posts or promote him? Post numbers are there becasue they are humerous,..I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
n2skdvn 0 #19 March 25, 2002 i agree they are there just for amusement. I think when bill booth speaks every one around here will listen. You also never know how many people just come here to lurk just for the info. i like it the way it is. i have over 400 jumps i know a little and can give advise but im not to good at explaning things while typing. So i try to give what i can of leave it to someone with better writing skills and the knowlage.if ya can't dodge it RAM IT !!!!!!click me
cloud9 0 #20 March 25, 2002 I didn't think anyone really took those titles very serious. I mean look at some of them. poo bah, come on I think any reasonably intelligent person will figure it out.

PhreeZone 20 #23 March 25, 2002 Alright... I'm speaking as a geek here now... its way too much maintence to go into a database and make manual changes on a semi-regular basis just to make a tiny change to non-critical data. Everytime a gear maker/dealer would create an account you would have to go in and manually change their title. I know of Chris, Dan, Bill, Breezy and a few others that have accounts on here that would need altered. In terms of mainitence its a head ache to keep up with expecially since Sangiro is the only one that can do it (Unless he gives direct access to the SQL tables out). I knew we have sugested that the profile like on the side links to the jump profile and not the post profile before. That might take care of everyones concerns if you could quickly click and see the person has 10000 jumps.I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
