Cornholio 0 #1 March 25, 2002 My AFFLevel 6 video is online for those interested parties. I am so excited. There were so many firsts today!! I think I owe a lot of beer. - First (and last) Level 6 - First backflip - First stand up landing- First edited video- First time doing more than 2 jumps ( I did 3 today: 4, 5, and 6) - First poised solo exitGosh, I was so freakin nervous about this jump. The backflip scared the shit out of me, but I told myself that I was just going to give it a try and see what happens. Well, the first time didn't go too well, but the second one kicked ass ( IMO ) and the thrid one was OK. Feel free to grab it and post it on the ftp skydiving site or use it wherever. I can relate to what Ann was talking about when she made/edited her first video. What a rad thing to do. http://www.almgren.net/aff/__________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you. Viking 0 #3 March 25, 2002 indeed that was a very solid flip!! Congrats!man you really made that camera guy work for his $$$ one thing i did notice is that when you pulled you dearched just slightly. Almost like you were trying to move the Pilot chute to your hand. This is somthing i heard when i first came to this site to help with arch and pulling. Lay down in your bath tub. The curve of the tub forces your body into a arch now practice touching your ass. Nice choice of music too, had me kinda noddin. Again Congrats and welcome to the Skys. I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver
mountainman 0 #4 March 25, 2002 Yeah, that was a great video and dive! That AFF guy was awesome. No matter which way you went, he was right there beside you. Gotta love that!Anyway, congrats!! What is your next dive? My hop-n-pop was #9, so is yours the same?JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.
wndrer73 0 #5 March 25, 2002 Great job Matt! Wish I woulda been at Byron today to see the original video! Oh well.... Anyway, hope you took videos of #4 and #5.... remember, I'm gonna be learning from your jumps now! ;)I just saw the video too and was impressed with all three backflips -- i can't wait to do 'em myself! Aaaah 5 more weeks.... 35 days.... 840 hours... 50,400 minutes.... 3,024,000 seconds until i'm all healed up and ready to FLY!!!! WOOOHOOOOOO!"Uh-oh, he's dead!" -- My video/photographer, after my first tandem jump
Cornholio 0 #6 March 25, 2002 Thanks for the advice. I would try the bathtub thing, but I don't have one... I have a shower/bath, but the walls and door will get in the way. I do need to work on my deployment. It seems that I can hold a steady arch up until that point. I asked my JM if on my level 7 and maybe 8 if I can do a couple practice pulls before I actually do it. I like that " trying to move the Pilot chute to your hand " That is so true. I was in the habit of looking back for it, but I have stopped doing that, but my arch still goes to shit cause I drop my knees and don't keep my balance when my arms are not at my sides acting as stabilizers. __________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you. Cornholio 0 #7 March 25, 2002 QuoteThat AFF guy was awesome Guy ?? That wasn't a guy That was Connie - for those of you familiar with the Byron DZ. She kicks ass!! My next jumps will probably be in a couple weeks. I am busy next weekend. Yeah, that hop-n-pop is what scares me next. I think level 7 and 8 will be a breeze now. __________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you.

TEB6363 0 #9 March 25, 2002 Connie is a great lady, I met her and Vick last October in Monterey. You should love the Hop & Pop. It is a great view of the landing area, at a lower altitude than you usually open your parachute on student jumps!:::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!
wndrer73 0 #10 March 25, 2002 They really are great!!! Connie was my JM both times on the tandems and Vic was one of my AFF2 JM's (with Bruce)... Man, I can't wait to get back to Byron and jump again as soon as this darn leg heals!!!and this time, i'm gonna ACE the jump!!!! JDBoston 0 #12 March 25, 2002 Nice job brother! That's the way to do it - as many jumps as you can pack in. It all feels strange during AFF, and there's new shit to do every time, so it really helps (IMHO) to just bang through the levels. With proper preparation on the ground, of course... first solo exit was a big step for me. I tumbled like crazy right out of the door, for no reason at all, then realized that I just had to chill out and arch and everything would go fine. And it did. You'll be fine on the hop 'n' pop. Just remember that you have TONS of time when you get out at 5K. Hell, you could wait 15 seconds to pull and you'd still be above 3K. Have fun!Joe
Cornholio 0 #13 March 25, 2002 Thanks for the encouragement.Quote Hell, you could wait 15 seconds to pull and you'd still be above 3K I could be wrong, but I thought the hop'n'pop was from 3500' ?? or not.5000' I can handle (that's an extra 10-12 seconds) but 3500' sounds a bit too low for my comfort level.__________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you. INSANEDADDY 0 #14 March 26, 2002 Great jump man. I just completed my AFP-5 and 6 on Thursday. My AFP program does not let me do flips til my number 9 jump. My AFP 7 will just be barrel rolls. Wazup with that? Oh well I am still having fun.
AndyMan 7 #15 March 26, 2002 It depends where you are. I did my hop and pop from 2500. Most of the turbine DZ's from around chicago do it from 4500.It doesn't really matter, you're falling so slowly when you're sub-terimal you've still got lots of altitude.I had an 18 second freefall from the chopper at quincy from 4500Getting out at 2,5 is really no harder then getting out at 13,5 - you've got OODLES of altitude to deal with any malfunction. You should be in the saddle right around 2000, which will again give you tons of altitude to land, considering you should have a perfect spot._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
pilotdave 0 #16 March 26, 2002 QuoteFeel free to grab it and post it on the ftp skydiving site or use it wherever. If anyone wants to upload it, go ahead... http://www.skydivingmovies.com. I'm away from the server for a week, on a 28.8 modem, so I can't do much at the moment. I hate slow internet. Yesterday I wanted to move a few files from the uploads directory to /freefly... I ended up using a command line ftp through telnet to download the files to my email account, and reupload them to the proper directory. What a mess. Anyone happen to know of an FTP command to move files from one directory to another?Davehttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
