ChromeBoy 0 #1 March 28, 2002 How's the recovery? What have you been doing to keep yourself entertained?
dove 0 #2 March 28, 2002 Hey Nathan! How're are things up there in Virginia? Hope you're loving your new home, job and dz.I had decided not to post about my recovery here since everyone seems so embroiled with all these other issues... it just didn't seem appropriate or important, but since you asked...My visit to the doc on Tuesday was AWESOME!!!!!!!!! It's been 6 weeks since the surgery (8 since the break) and I was in for my first set of follow up xrays. I was shocked to find out I have one screw front to back and another that goes all the way across the top of my tibia. It is so huge it looks like the screw from a door hinge! Oh my! (I have attached a picture I found online that looks just like my side-to-side screw... then add to that the other screw and a bone graft - yummy!) The doctor said the xrays look terrific. He was also completely blown away by my range of motion and ability to completely straighten my leg (he couldn't even squeeze his finger under it at all) And he was also quite pleased with my muscle tone and growth. Yippee Kay Yay! And if that wasn't enough to make me grin like a crazy woman... he knocked 2 weeks of my recovery time and says I can start walking in 4 weeks instead of 6... and he is a very strict doctor! I should write a book on healing cause I am a BADASS healer! His research assistant couldn't even find the fractures on my xray anymore and the compressed bone is... well, uncompressed! I am not moving my anticipated skydiving date forward though. Since that date is set in my head, it'll give me 2 more weeks to recover and get stronger. And I have already started looking into getting a big boat of a canopy to touch me down gently. Now... if I could only pick and choose who sits in front of me on the plane..... So if you're one of those people who thought I smiled too much already, you ain't seen nothin' yet! I have a perpetual grin and can't wait to get back in the air and play. But til then, I am getting stronger every day and adding tons of new exercises so when I start walking my leg will be able to support my weight. And I am going to the dz this weekend just to hang. We miss you down here!dove
SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 March 28, 2002 Good to hear you can come out and play soon !! I'm not crazy - I'm a Skydiver
ChromeBoy 0 #4 March 28, 2002 That's awesome. You are a quick healer and you never lose your attitude which is great. Yeah, I probably wouldn't begin on the Heatwave immediately either. Then again, I don't jump one now! Virginia is alright but the weather has been pretty crappy. It is always sunny all week and then raining and low clouds on the weekends. Figures, right? I have made some friends at the dz though. Bobby is pretty cool. I remember him from the swoop competition in Z Hills. Courtney (Zilla) is pretty cool too. I will only be here another month. Looks like I will either be in Boston, New Jersey, Los Angelas or San Francisco next. Decisions, decisions.
dove 0 #5 March 28, 2002 Alex - Thanks! I can't wait! Who wants to take me for a ride my first time back?!?!?!?!? ;-)Nathan - what, are you crazy? Come back to our green grass, swaying palm trees and puffy cumulus clouds!!!! I thought you were there for good. You are moving again? Wow! Wherever you go there will be a cool dz nearby so we can get that rodeo dive out of the way!! Yup - lots o cool skydivers at Orange. I hope to visit there once or twice this summer. I also want to back to my old digs at Delmarva. Looks like I"ll be putting a lot of miles on my old Civic! Hopefully work'll pick up here and I can afford to go to Lost Prarie and go up north every once in a while. PLEASE keep in touch - you have my email. doveP.S. One more thing - I got my full flexibility back today. I can once again do the full splits. Yee-hah! Now I can go back to working on what I did that last jump - helicopters! ChromeBoy 0 #6 March 28, 2002 QuoteWho wants to take me for a ride my first time back?!?!?!?!?Do you mean skydive or uh, uh, uh, because I would be there for you girl! We WILL complete that rodeo someday. As for Florida, I could live in Orlando. I wouldn't want to go back to Naples though. I will still make the Keys Boogie every year though. freeflir29 0 #8 March 28, 2002 Good to hear Dove!!!! It sucks coming back from an injury. I suggest not hurting yourself in the first place. "I only have 145 jumps so I always carry a JM so he can pull for me."-Clay
dove 0 #9 March 28, 2002 Dammit Clay! Why couldn't you have posted that profound statement in January?!?!?!? And by the way, it's not the coming back from an injury that sucks... it's the getting one in the first place! So - you gonna catch me as I come out of the sky on my first jump back?
freeflir29 0 #10 March 28, 2002 QuoteSo - you gonna catch me as I come out of the sky on my first jump back?Yep...I have a pretty good record at chasing down errant tandem masters. I think catching you shouldn't be a problem. P.S. One of our DZO's still wears a knee brace and spent a long time sliding in on his ass intentionally. If you need to there is certainly no shame in it. "I only have 145 jumps so I always carry a JM so he can pull for me."-Clay

dove 0 #14 March 28, 2002 One of our DZO's still wears a knee brace and spent a long time sliding in on his ass intentionally. If you need to there is certainly no shame in it. Yeah - I hear ya. And I am fully prepared to do that. I will just wear my old trashy jumpsuit. Or hell - it's getting hot out anyhow. My summer jumpsuit is a tank and short-shorts. No one will notice the grass stains on that little green hawaiian print anyhow! But I figure if I keep away from the (oh-so-fun) high-speed approaches for a while I should be fine. I'd hate to bust my widdle ol' tailbone to protect my leg!dove
SkydiveMonkey 0 #15 March 28, 2002 duck-tape a pillow to your butt !! Or I'll come and catch you I'm not crazy - I'm a Skydiver

dove 0 #17 March 28, 2002 OK - wanna know how bad I want to skydive? I have already SERIOUSLY considered the pillow option! Though I was thinking of putting a ton out there to land on. But who knows how my accuracy is after 2 months! Such an addict!
