My 6th Level Struggle

Recommended Posts

I don't really know what it was after my 5th level that kept me away for 29 days!! You read about the nervousness that people experience, but honestly I don't know where my came from. Maybe the fear of failure. Hell, in this sport if you fail a level and are alive at the end, it is a learning experience, Right!?!
Well, I got up yesterday and I knew that I had to jump, or I would forever make excuses of why I couldn't go to the DZ~ the DZ is only 5 minutes from my house!! Anyway, I was at the DZ by 8:30am and was set to go on the first load. My JM was late, so I got bumped off!! I was so bummed!! For the average wack job:S, that would have been no problem, but for me, it gave me just a little more time to build up that fear factor!! BREATH DEEP AND DON'T FORGET TO EXHALE!! And get this, I was on the ground!! I was very nervous!!
My JM finally showed up!! You know everything happens for a reason! He Rocked!! The once nervous wack job, became a very excited wack job!! I finally felt so ready, so calm:)!!!! This weekend, weather permitting, I too, hope to be the one buying beer!!:)The one thing I learned is that you can not allow fear to dictate your confidence level!! I know that there will always be that twinge in my stomach on my first jump of the day!! I don't ever want to lose that!!

The best thing you can do in the air is RELAX. When I was on my student jumps (did RAPS), I was always tense and my flying showed it. When I qualified, I relaxed a lot more, and my flying became so much better.
When you participate in sporting events, its not whether you win or loose, its how drunk you get.

Struggle with fear? Hmmmmmm....sounds familiar....;) (I changed the title of your post just a tad....;)again...)
Hang in, Katie - you'll do fine. And while fear is there, so is the joy and excitement. I so very well know this....lol....
Good job, and congratulations!

I'm up to 150 jumps now. Not including more than a couple military static lines. You will still see me in the minutes before exit with my finger feeling my pulse. Sort of a "Bio Feedback" thing. When my pulse starts to shoot up I just breath deep and start visualizing the dive in total silence and in slow motion. This always brings my pulse back down and my performance up!!!! Ya gotta breath and relax. I also make it a point that within the first 5 seconds or so agter exit I conciously take in a really deep breath and let it slow. I think it fools the unconcious mind into thinking that you are in total control of the situation. Trust me....it works. :)"I'm a danger to myself and everyone around me!"-Clay

Hey Clay.....explain the new sig. Personally, I miss the "I got some beers...let's drink'em" cause I wanted to take you up on that at some point.
