TheMarshMan1 0 #3 April 2, 2002 Thats cool. I really would love to have 20/20 vision without glasses, but right now lazer surgery is a risk I'm not willing to take. Scratch 0 #12 April 2, 2002 QuoteThats cool. I really would love to have 20/20 vision without glasses, but right now lazer surgery is a risk I'm not willing to take.Try being -5 in both eyes and developing a contact lens intolerence. The risks seem minor by comparison. For those with good vision..Minus 5, if you put your specs down. You had better remember where because you will not be able to see them from a distance greater than a meter or so. TheMarshMan1 0 #18 April 2, 2002 QuoteThe risks seem minor by comparison.Yes, except that my eyes have to be corrected to 20/20 to keep my first class medical, and I dont want to make them worse than they already are by taking an unnecessary risk. Or you doing something 'special'?Well if you're going through the process with the three letter organization I'm going with on their website (as well as applications) it states:"Candidates must be completely available for assignment anywhere in the "organization's" jurisdiction, have uncorrected vision not worse than 20/200 (Snellen) and corrected 20/20 in one eye and not worse than 20/40 in the other eye. All candidates must pass a color vision test. "Needless to say, I was blind as a bat before lasik.

chicagoskydiver 0 #24 April 2, 2002 I had my lasik done over a year ago and they're right...it does gradually get better. What really amazed me is I was able to drive my car without glasses later that same night. I tested out at 20/25 after one week. It's gotten better since then. In the beginning, I saw "halos" around lights at night and my vision was a little erratic, sometimes a little better, sometimes a little worse. It will get better. After a while, you won't even think about the days you used to have to deal with glasses or contacts. The nice thing for me is it was covered by my insurance at work and I didn't pay a cent for it! Congrats on your "new eyeballs" lol!Hackey
kmcguffee 0 #25 April 2, 2002 OK, found it on their website. I must have used an old application because I can't find it in there anywhere. Luckily, I meet that requirement. Whew! I've only been in the process for 14 months. It would suck to fall out now. They are hiring like crazy now. How far have you gotten in the process?
