jumpgump 0 #1 February 4, 2014 I did a search through the forums and didn't find the answer to this specific question. What is the maximum allowable student weight/height to use a 240 canopy?
councilman24 37 #2 February 4, 2014 Depends on the canopy. Not enough information. And whatever we say isn't going to over rule your instructor or DZO. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
jumpgump 0 #3 February 4, 2014 councilman24 Depends on the canopy. Not enough information. And whatever we say isn't going to over rule your instructor or DZO. A Navigator 240 is the largest solo rig at this DZ close to where I live. For my height and weight (5'11; 205 lbs.) I was told I need a 280. They told me they couldn't help me. Before I hung up the phone I should have asked how much weight I need to lose to fit into it (lol). I'm new to all of this. I'm guessing there is a big difference between a 240 and a 280 in terms of what weight it can handle and how it flies with that amount of weight (200-210 lbs.). Thanks for your patience. ridebmxbikes 0 #4 February 4, 2014 Actually from what you are describing it sounds like its not the weight limit of the canopy that they are worried about but its the wingloading you will be at ( your full geared up exit weight vs the canopy square footage). The higher the wingloading the less room for error you have and as a student you will be full of errors(even for naturals). All students require a VERY light w/l. Maybe check around for other dropzones and see if someone else has the gear you need to get started. If there's no one else close to you then maybe you could call the Dropzone back up and ask them how much weight you'd have to lose to let you jump. Where there's a will there's a way! Good luck and blue skies!
GLIDEANGLE 1 #5 February 4, 2014 The manufacturer says that the maximum STUDENT exit weight (jumper and gear) for a Navigator 240 is 180 lbs. http://www.performancedesigns.com/navigator.aspThe choices we make have consequences, for us & for others! councilman24 37 #6 February 4, 2014 As I said nobodies answer matters but theirs. Their DZ, their toys, their rules. You will weigh close to 240 with clothes and and gear. That's the weight that matters. Call them and ask them what their body weight limit is. That's the only answer that matters. The answers here will vary. BTW most DZ's would be able to handle your weight.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

Joellercoaster 6 #8 February 4, 2014 The answers are all good (and in the UK, the answer would be "190lbs including full kit, for a first jump"), but the question itself is interesting.
