Unwritten Rules for Forum

I would like to ask people how they feel on this subject: The posting of people's names as the title of a post. Ok or not?
As part of the TeamFunnel listbot we have an unwritten rule to never use someone's name solely as the title of a post. We feel this can cause anxiety because many times the news that follows is some sort of bad news announcement. We try to fashion the title without their name at all or with other phrases to let people know it's nothing negative.
It's just a thought. How do other's feel?

Personally I think it depends. If is something directed only at them, PM them (even though I've been guilty of the other...You know, we have quite a few unwritten rules here, it would be good to compile an unofficial list and have it available for people new to the forums.

Just the name? I haven't ever done that. Smart business is to state a general idea of what a post is about anyway. It makes it much easier for me to figure out what I want to avoid, like JOKES!

As a rule player myself......I can only play by the rules if I know what those rules are. I am not a mind reader nor do I like to assume anything. I do believe in respecting people and trying to maintain positive situations in all things.
If there is something that would be hurtful, disrespectful or cause anxiety to another, then I would hope that common courtesy would dictate that it be kept private. Just my own .02

I think that it depends what you use as the "icon" also. If I saw someone's name as the subject and then saw a "frowny face", I would be concerned.
However, if I saw the name with a tongue face, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Good call though, DiverDriver, because I'm sure that this could cause some sudden anxiety for some people at times.

Over the 2 months that i've been here on the forum I have come to realize that as far as post content goes it is a good idea to keep your opinions to yourself. Not just opinions but keep the content clean. I know when I start reading a post when the swearing and bickering start I stop reading the thread and then end up missing something in the end.
Yes, I agree that the UNOFFICIAL list to moderating the forum should be posted and made public for all to read.
Who ever said comming down from a high was bad, never tried this.

If I had a comment that I posted a persons name in the post t was never an angry post!
I didnt even think it would bug anyone.
however If I posted someone's (lets say clays) name just to call him a sheep herder that would be way out of line!(even If it's just a joke!)

No, I think some may be missing my point. Just posting someone's name and only the name can be taken for posting some bad news. Sorry, this is something we started last year after four of our friends were killed jumping. Many of our email to each other had their names as titles. Then someone posted another jumper's name only as the title and every thought the worst at first read. Clicking on the email showed it was nothing important and it was more like a PM. Among our group we suggested that a persons name was not to be used in the title of a post. It's just what we do. And thought I would suggest it here.

I can see how this happened. You guys had a bad year last year...
I've been lucky so far - never lost a friend to skydiving. I hope I never do, but that probably won't happen.

I have not had such a good year already.
I have a strong opinion on this and NO names just like that... When the phone rings after 10 I freak out, So... no calling after 10.
I am especially jumpy right this very minute. No fukin names especially right now. Everyone has been good so far, kinda.
But please, our community is small but far apart. When someone is hurt here they may not know it at home yet.
Not to long ago I rushed home to give a heads up to my friends before they read it on the gdamn boards. We have serious praying going on when this stuff happens. And its bad right now.
And that is all I have to say about that is shut the fuk up, right now - and get your ass to praying.
Driver, - its bad enough to find out, but to find out in a board post is not good, but no way is good.
Somebody - somewhere this week likely got hurt skydiving on this planet.
So a prayer for them all ...... Thank you.
