freefalle 0 #1 April 9, 2002 Update on a missing Deland Skydiver. As of approx. 2330 hrs all rescue efforts had been suspended until approx 0700hrs to find the missing Deland Skydiver. His name is David Hoven he is approx. 70 years old, he is a familiar face around skydive deland he is a hell of a nice guy. Gods speed David. Ladies and gentlemen, Please do me a favor, I know and work with most of the Police AND Fire Fighters involved in this search and rescue effort. PLEASE do not bad mouth them. They are hard working professionals who will do there best to find David. I dont know shit about what you do for a living therefore I will not judge or attempt criticize decisions you or people in your career field make. Give me the same courtesy. This will not bring David home safe and it pisses people off.As stated in a previous post David was on a load at approx. 1600hrs he was making a hop n pop at approx 5000 feet. No one on the load or on the DZ can positively state wether or not David ever got under canopy. As a 2330 hrs the search grid had been significantly narrowed down and crews are hopeful tomorrow will bring closure to this incident

Zinger 0 #3 April 9, 2002 If they are doing all they can then why did they quit looking for him till 7.00 AM ? If I was there I would not of quit due to lack of daylight. All that fancy search equipment and they don't have flashlights? I bet if you spoke to any of his family, friends or for this matter HIM, I bet they would want people to keep searching threw the night, If I was any where close I would not of given up. Most cops are nothing but egotistical control freaks that could not make it in the armed service so they try to bring the military ways to the general public where it is not understood by most and resented by almost all. I just want to tell all those SNR people "good job" for keeping up the search and doing whatever you can do. I can understand waiting till better light to do a search. Some people in this world just don't appreciate much.JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook. Zinger 0 #5 April 9, 2002 I have said that face to face to a cop before and will again if need be, Why should I be scared to?? They work for US and are paid by US and are suppose to be protecting US so why are SOME so rude to US? If that poor old man was your dad would you of quit looking? diverdriver 7 #6 April 9, 2002 Can you say aligators? Sometimes the risk to the search crew is so significant that decisions have to be made to keep from having more victims.Back that attitude up on cops. Many a night they came running when I worked at a hotel in Daytona Beach during Spring Break. When I needed help they were there. FAST. One night a dumbass had a gun. Cops got there pronto. So, I for one don't appreciate this overall characterisation of our police force.Chris

Let me clue you in -- we have two types or terrain here, developed land (homes/golf courses, etc.) on which it would be easy to search in any light conditions/weather; the second is palmettoscrub/swamp.In the second it can be impossible to see someone 6 feet away, if you can make any progress through the swamp and keep from getting cut to shreds by sharp leaves. Keeping your bearings is nigh impossible as well. What do you want, 20 people wandering in impassable terrain, getting lost and injured? Suspending the search until first light(which, by the way was after 7a.m. today) was the safest thing for the searchers to do. I'm sure they didn't want to stop, they had to.
