Spy38W 0 #1 April 3, 2002 Hey all, I have to fly up to Knoxville, TN Thursday morning and will be staying till Monday morning, so I was wondering where the closest DZ was, and if they might have rig rentals so I can get my B this weekend. Thanks in advance--~Captain CutawayI can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

wrightskyguy 1 #7 April 4, 2002 Skydive Smokey Mt is 20 miles N of Knoxville off I-75 in Lafollette. Nice place, beautiful scenery, and a freindly DZO. I believe his name is Kip. Have fun!

Pammi 0 #9 April 5, 2002 QuoteHey, check out Flyaway vertical wind tunnel in Pigeon Forge while you're that close.Hey, went there when I was a kid, maybe 13 :) See, I have always wanted to skydive :) My poor parents had no idea what they were starting. But I remember sucking back then and not getting very high in the tunnel because I couldn't hold myself right.Anyways...I'd be interested to know what you think of the DZ you go to there. We are considering that area as one of our choices after school is out for the kiddos if Merrick hasn't found anything by that time. (I have an Aunt nearby but she doesn't 'get' it when I ask how the DZ's are around there when she tries to get us to move to that area *G*)New pin jewelry! We are considering that area as one of our choices after school is out for the kiddos if Merrick hasn't found anything by that time. Hey Pammi,I just got back from Knoxville last night, Skydive Smoky Mountains was really cool, the scenery was amazing, people at the DZ were friendly. The place is surrounded by mountains (small ones, but I'm from Flatland, er I mean Florida, so I was impressed) I went out there Saturday, it was kindof slow because of the cold weather, but there were still full loads of freeflyers from their mega-fast 206. People there seem to be very conservative with canopy selection, maybe because of the increased turbulence from the mountain waves? The smallest rig they had to rent was a brand new Javelin with a Navigator 200. The airport is fairly quiet also, you don't have to worry very much about 'other' pilots barreling through the DZ. Overall I had a good time, and like the DZ a lot. They have a 206 and a 182 that usually run at the same time from what I'm told. I'm still catching up with being back in town, so this is a hurried letter, but feel free to ask anything I've left out.--~Captain CutawayI can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds... Spy38W 0 #12 April 8, 2002 Just two, got there around 10:30 in the morning. I didn't sleep all night before we flew up and started packing around 5:00 AM and didn't think of checking the weather, so I only packed shorts/Tshirt for the trip, and forgot my jump shoes.. So I show up at the 50 degree DZ wearing Short, my DZ.com t-shirt, and dress shoes.. :) Got the funniest looks, somebody asked how far north I had come from, "Uhm, Florida..." Got some good headdown coaching from an AD, who also recommended I not try anymore head down until I get an audible, doh. What about you, how was your weekend? I didn't see you in the Weekend Numbers post --~Captain CutawayI can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...
Pammi 0 #13 April 8, 2002 Hey Spy...thanks for taking the time to fill me in on the DZ! I really appreciate it. It sounds like a nice, cozy DZ. Were there a lot of students around? Possibly not yet at this time of the year. With two planes, it probably wouldn't matter too much anyway if they keep em both up most of the time. Thanks again!New pin jewelry! Spy38W 0 #14 April 8, 2002 There weren't too many students around, one was there who had just gotten off student status and is making his way towards completing his A, and a second who just got his A. The DZ was pretty quiet b/c of the cold weather though, so it's hard to say. Had a darned good time even though I didn't jump too much and was flying under the S.S. (I thought the cool thing about your job was the ability to go from DZ to DZ) Let me know when you're settled up there and have weekends off so I can use some jumpseat passes to drop by. Uhm, New England has two seasons, Winter, and July... you poor, poor bastard... F- No I didn't get my jumpsuit/gearbag yet, the company that I ordered it from charged my credit card January 31st saying I would have it within 2 weeks. Well, end of Feb I called and they said it would be here within a week, then I called at the end of March assured it would be here by the end of last week, uhm, still nothing here... If it's not here by the end of the week I'm canceling and ordering from the same people who made your suit.--~Captain CutawayI can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...
