johnnyneedlez11 0 #1 January 27, 2014 Hey All, I just had a quick question about this machine. I know that there are many, many opinions about sewing machines on here. I am looking for my first machine to do some basic rigging and was leaning towards the 401A mainly because of portability and affordability. What are your thoughts on a good price for a 401A? I see EBay has a bunch, 395 for a fully restored one. Is this a reasonable price? Any guidance is much appreciated. Thanks
monkycndo 0 #2 January 27, 2014 Depending on your location, prices will vary. I see them in my area for anywhere from $75 on up. The highriced ones are often closet queens and more a collectors item than a sewing machine. Check on Craigslist for the 401A and the 500A which is almost the same model. If you don't want all the extra fancy stitches, look at the 403 and 503 models.50 donations so far. Give it a try. (pay no attention to asking prices) You don't need most of the accessories for rigging work, so just get a cheap one. Don't worry about the manual, you can get service and user manual online free. (send me a PM and I will email them to you). I would not pay more than $75 for one, unless it's been fully restored. menopause 0 #4 January 27, 2014 Keep in mind a 401 has a slant needle/shank which means it is incompatible with some attachments/feet.
