WEll of course the wind direction matters.....
If it is an offshore wind pattern, the air is dryer and warmer. This in effect raises the efalephalant's body temperature an average of 3 to 5 degrees (C).
To put it mildly, the Effie get's hot n bothered
Conjunction Junction, what's your function?

I believe you are correct in your assumption that wind direction plays an important part. It is after all the wind that is responsible (no matter which direction it is coming from) for the attraction between the female elephants and the male.
The Indian elephant has bigger ears than the African elephant as many of you probably already know. What you may not know is the females are attracted to different elephants not so much for the size of the ears, but for the flapping of the ears in the wind.

Ummm....I thought there were African and ASIAN elephants....with the African having much larger ears. I'm not exactly a biologist but I have been known to watch the Discovery channel. :)"It's all about the BOOBIES!"
