Damn Slinks!!!!

Recommended Posts

I just had my second cutaway at jump 194. I reviewed my video and realized my excess brake line was stuck in my s-link and riser grommet before I ever released my brakes. Had I paid attention and realized one of my excess brake lines was not feeflying upon openining I could have cleared it. When I went to full brakes on the line in question, it stayed in full brakes. I willtry and post a picture of my mal later.
I am now having my s-link tabs tacked to my risers and I will check my risers for problems before I unstow my brakes next time.

Had something similar happen in January. The excess loop of my brake line wrapped around the tab of my slink, which was exposed out of my riser. I unstowed my brake and when I pulled down, I, in essence, locked the loop around the tab. I opted to not cutaway, and landed rear risers. Getting the slink tacked is a great idea. Congrats on learning, thanks for passing it along, and hope others read this.

We had a cut away last weekend due to a similar problem. The excess got caught around the ring (He had the type that have a small brass looking ring instead of a tab) He messed with it until 1000 feet and then decided to cut away. Probably a good thing since he sucks landing that thing under normal circumstances. Cool part was...some guy was standing over at the FBO with a video camera and just happened to pick him out of the 4 way to focus in on. Got the whole sequence on video!!! :)"It's all about the BOOBIES!"
