And yet another rediculous lawsuit...

Recommended Posts

A man is suing American Airlines because his wife got lost in an airport. They were on their way from LAX to Indy. The 70-year old alzheimer's patient went missing on Dec. 5th in DFW while her husband was in the bathroom. She hasnt been seen since.
....sooo, this guy thinks that since his wife wandered off while he was in the pisser (in the AIRPORT no less) its the airline's fault? Umm, riiiight. I know airlines sometimes have special obligations to take care of small childeren travelling alone, but not 70 year old women.

In this case, the family requested and PAID for extra assistance from American Airlines. The same type of extra attention you would pay for if you were sending a couple of young children on a plane alone. People pay for and airlines provide this assistance every day. If this had been a 4 year old child that had wandered off would you feel differently?

What is interesting to me, to say the least, is how the heck did she get onto the tarmac, and a secure area?
I went through that airport recently - Reserves standing around with guns, and so forth. Hmmmmmmm.

If a 4 year old child had wandered off, you can bet that an intensive manhunt would have been kicked off. And in my opinion, 4 year olds shouldnt be travelling like that alone- airlines should not be responsible for babysitting them. Nor should they be responsible for a woman with alzheimer's wandering off. If care for the elderly couple was desired, they should have hired a caretaker, not the airline.

The airline accepted responsibility for caring for the elderly couple when they accepted the extra $$ to do so. They failed to the extent that a mentally ill person has been missing for 5 months.
This lawsuit doesn't sound frivolous to me, if it was a member of my family I would want to hold the airline accountable.

Excerpt from the article:
Quote

Margie Dabney was so disoriented that she had tried to open a plane door in flight. The Dallas airport was notified of her condition, but an attendant who was supposed to help her went to the wrong gate, South said.
Joe Dabney recently had undergone hip surgery and was being escorted to a restroom when his wife apparently wandered away. The airline contacted police more than an hour later.

OK, I must be confused. Explain to me how this is the fault of American Airlines.

Joe Dabney said he hoped the lawsuit would refocus attention on his missing wife. He also asked people to boycott American.

Yep, don't fly American...they lose people.

South said he believes she was abducted by an airport employee.

What on earth would an airport employee want with a 70 year old woman with alzheimers? I betcha it was the CIA, yup, thats it Mr. South, the CIA got her.

The way I read the article, it was Dallas airport personnel that were notified of her condition. You know...the people cruising around the terminal in golf carts....

I've got to side with Milo on this. Just based on the article, it does appear that the airline accepted the responsibility for this couple and dropped the ball. It isn't outrageous to compare a 70 year old woman with Altheimers to a 4 year old child. Perhaps neither should be traveling alone, but in this case her husband made the effort to inform the airline personnel that his wife had special needs. Indeed, she demonstrated that herself. Its sad that the police were not notified for over an hour, even sadder still that this woman has been missing for months and it has not been headline news. If this was a 4 year old child, her picture would have been on the front page of every newspaper in the county, and the lead story on any news cast.
