Does your dz have a "beer light"?

Recommended Posts

While Stacy and I were sitting around in Deland on Saturday, she said, "I can't believe you all can drink beer here all day long." What?? You have to wait until the sunset load is over before you can drunk beer at some places? I had no idea! Yet another reason why I'll keep jumping in Deland...and it's such an important reason too! :D
So, just out of curiousity, what's the policy at YOUR dz?

The rule at Perris - where there is a bar - is no drinking alcohol before jumping, and all alcohol must be kept in the bar or pool area until "green light" - when the last load takes off.
At the little dz I "grew up" at, it was no drinking anywhere near the hangar until the beer light went on (we had a real beer light too - a neon sign that said "beer").

Most of the DZ's I've been to just go on the honor system - if people drink they don't jump. Most of these DZ's are small enough so that you would know if somebody was doing both.
It's a regular occurance at one DZ I frequent that people turn down the sunset load because they cracked a beer.
I don't have a big problem with this. I only saw this abused once, and it was at a small DZ in upstate NY. It also wasn't beer, it was weed. This specific individaul was delt with.
If people want to drink and then jump, a light the DZO turns on at a certain time isn't going to stop them. They'll just go out behind the hanger, or in their car, or somwhere else they won't be seen.
I'd rather the DZO just teaches people to say 'no' after the bottle gets cracked.

One of my "home" dz's does actually have a neon sign in one of the hangars that we're supposed to plug in before we start drinking. At that dz, no drinking is allowed until the last load of the day is in the air. I've also been to dz's that have beer available to people all day long and you just have to hope noone is drinking and jumping.

I jump at the same DZ as Phree, I think you will actually be kicked off the DZ if you are drinking before the "beer light" is turned on. It's very laid back at SGC, except we are pretty strict on no drugs, no alcohol while loads are still turning, and no low hook turns. I think we should put a sign at the end of the drive way that says just that. :)It's ok you can touch it

We have a beer light. I originally thought it was just an "imaginary" one but then once after the sunset load went my 10 year old daughter asked me if she could now turn on the beer light and I found out there was an actual green light! Figures she knew about it!

SD Atlanta has a NO Beer policy during the day. Once the sunset load is off the ground beers get cracked. Raeford has a bar on the DZ so Spectators are always hanging out drinking. It is confined to the bar and a small area outside of it. You can drink in the parking area but no alcohol is allowed on the other side of the fence between the parking and landing areas until the last load has gone up.

There is a blanket no drinking policy at Skydive Citrusdal until the last load is airborn.
If you want to start early then it is off the DZ.
People who do this then stay off the DZ until the bar is opened. No sense in teasing those who are still sober:D
Every day above ground is a good day.

haha, I tease people all the time with my beers, swinging it under their noses while they're packing, making them smell it...

Beer tease! Been to both kinds of DZ's. Heard of one (may have been Byron, but I'm not sure) where the DZO cxl'd the sunset load cause guys were drinking too early. His ball, so he can make the rules. Gotta believe that didn't happen twice.
Was at Deland this weekend when a spectator was sitting out side drinking a beer. I walked by and said, "Guess you're done jumping for the day, huh?" He gave me one of those WTF whuffo looks. It was about 11:00 AM.

Beer light doesn't go on until the last jumper is on the gound, the aircraft has arrived at the hangar and has come to a complete stop. The first beer of the eve is quickly delivered via golf cart to the pilot with a hearty "thanks" for a job well done.

>Every DZ I have been too had a rule that there was no drinking allowed until
>after the last load went up. Even spectators.
I think my experience has been the opposite. Just about every DZ I've been at has either allowed drinking somewhere while jumping was going on (parking lot, spectator area etc) or had an actual bar in operation during jumping. Maybe it's a west coast thing (although the ranch has the sportsman's club.)

How mean! :D
There is a sign behind the bar (on the end towards the deck) in DeLand that says no alcoholic drinks for anyone jumping or something like that....

No beer till the last load goes up at the DZ's I jump at. Though I am sure many of us sneek 12 oz of weight on the sunset load occasionaly, no harm will come of that. We do not have the actual beer light but Beer:30 is Beer:30. You'll know it's time to drink!B|

no brew until the last plane of the day takes off. actually last year the airport owner wouldn't allow camping at the dz, so most people had a beer, maybe two, then headed off to a bar. this year, new airfield owners, camping is allowed!!

At our DZ we have to wait until the sunset load takes off.
Which is a big relief after flying all day, I usually don't crack it open until I make the power reduction at 500' though. j/k :)--

We used to have a beer light at my dz, the green light would go on after the last load was up, but this year the airport's trying their best to fuck with the dropzone, so starting this season we aren't even allowed to have alcohol on the premices. Evil bastards!
