Pammi 0 #1 April 24, 2002 Well, the U-haul is reserved for June 1st and we're trying to figure out where we're gonna live. Can anyone from that area tell me of a few good rental companies or some such I can contact to get info? I'm not really even sure how to go about this yet...this is a first for both Merrick and I moving so far away...so how does one go about finding a place to live in such situations? Maybe a company that you can tell what you want (a good place for the kids to go to school that accepts pets for a reasonable price since we'll both be looking for jobs AFTER we get there *shiver*). Advice on how to go about this? (The positive thing is that the kids will be with their father for a month after May 29th so we can get things settled before they get there!)Thanks!!Closing pin necklaces! dove 0 #3 April 24, 2002 Hey Pammi. When I moved to Tampa I knew no one and had to do it all myself from up north. The greatest resource I found was http://www.homestore.com/. They not only list houses and apartments with pictures and even some virtual tours (I took the virtual tour of the place I now live in!) It also has info about neighborhoods, schools, crime rates, numbers for police dept, libraries, schools, discounts on moving trucks and even weather and local entertainment. Really cool site. Hope it helps! dove
coconutmonkey 0 #4 April 24, 2002 Pammi, jobs, heard about a web site for ya. Don't know if it's any good or not, just local ad's about it. http://trianglehelpwanted.comHousing I don't know much, but I'll see about talking to some folks for ya. There should be some Louisburg folks on line here with a bit more info.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 April 24, 2002 Finally, the big step! I am assuming yall are going to want to find employment in RTP or somewhere else in I.T. around Raleigh. The most important consideration, though, is what side of town to live on in order to be near the DZ! Lucky for you, the 440 beltline runs clean around Raleigh and makes transit to RTP and anywhere else around the city a breeze. Personally, if I were you guys I would look for a place on the North side of the loop in the Mini City area. There is a TON of housing there and it places you on the closest side of the city for the drive up to CSS in Louisburg. That is also on the Wake Forrest side of the city. From Mini City you are still only about an hour and a half from Raeford max. If you choose the other option (being nearer to Raeford), then you should try and live over next to RTP and US-1. Actually, if you find employment in RTP you could feasibly live as far south as Sanford and transit in. That would put you less than a half hour from Raeford, but still within an hour to anywhere in the Raleigh/Durham area. ChuckMy webpage HERE
flyhi 24 #6 April 24, 2002 The best advice I ever got on moving with kids was, "Find a place you want them to go to school, then live near there." The best place I ever lived was across the street from my kids' school. The easiest house I ever sold, was the one across the street from my kids' school. Good luck.flyhi
skycat 0 #7 April 24, 2002 hey sweety.....I have all the answers I found out last week that I'm moving to Denver by May 15th....So although my company is taking care of the movers and transport of one car and all that good stuff so far they have sucked finding me a home. Basically what are you looking for? A house (rent or buy)? The best place would be to contact a realtor in the area that understands you don't have a lot of time and will have to do a lot of the stuff long distance. An Apt? An apartment locator, will do most of the leg work for you and even take care of a lot of the paper work, I'm going to be moving into a place sight un-seen cause I don't have time for a house hunting trip so my apt locator lady is really cool and doing almost everything for me. Using an apt locator should be free, and they can get you the best specials. The place I'm probably moving into, I'm getting my rent at $200 less than list and only have to pay the pet deposit. They may also know of equity apts. where your rent goes toward owning a home, such as the place I'm looking at.If you are renting remember the pets are a HUGE consideration, some places won't let you have more than 1 dog over 20 lbs. and some places won't let you have more than 2 pets total and various mixes of cat and dog combinations. Make sure all the kids(pets) are up to date on shots and find out for the area if they need different meds, like here in Houston fleas are the biggest problem while in Denver ticks seem to be the issues, but on the other hand heartworm is very rare. As for schools, if you know someone in the area they would be your best bet for what schools are better or what districts seem to be on top of things. skymama 37 #8 April 24, 2002 Hey Pammi-Check out the city of Cary. My cousins live there, and they liked the area so much, that my Aunt and Uncle, and my other cousin and her family all moved to be closer to them, and they all like it too. My cousins have kids, so the schools must be pretty good over there too.AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 April 24, 2002 Cary is a nice place, but housing is getting expensive there. It is on the Southwest side of Raleigh and right off of US-1 near RTP. That would put you on the far side of town from CSS (maybe 45 minutes with no traffic) and about an hour from Raeford. My webpage HERE
skycat 0 #10 April 24, 2002 hehehe....it's kind of funny how you decide where you live based on where the DZ is. Luckly my new DZ is only 12 miles from my office and ~20 from where I plan on living.

Pammi 0 #13 April 24, 2002 Thank you thank you thank you guys!!! It's such a good start on this! I think the dogs will be the biggest part of finding a place to live. If we could do the apartment thing, it'd be much simpler. But with them, we need a house with a yard that allows pets. There seems to be a lot of ads in their newspaper, and if it comes down to it, I can call a few of them just before we go and look at them when we get there (live in the U-Haul for a couple of days). It'd be nice to have something kinda ready tho. Thanks for the info on areas too Chuck :) I have been kinda looking at the different areas, what they say they are 'like' and then pulling them up on mapquest to see how far they are from the DZ :) hehe That info will help a lot in what to tell people I will start trying to call when they ask about areas :)Good luck to you too Skycat!! We actually looked at maybe going to Denver too. It's a beautiful area! Closing pin necklaces!
base698 20 #14 April 24, 2002 I unfortunatly live on the non-dz side of Raleigh, but only 5 minutes from school. I would definitly recommend moving to North Raleigh to get near CSS, but if not there are lots of spaces open anywhere around in apartments. Most giving 1-2 months free rent. SkymonkeyONE 4 #18 April 24, 2002 Mini City is what some people call North Raleigh. It is the area where highway 401 and US-1 branch apart, just north of the 440 beltline. It is a pretty nice area with tons of shopping and housing. Highway 401 goes directly through the middle of downtown Raleigh, and as odd as that sounds, it is never backed up at all and you breeze right through town. The 440 beltline has an outer and inner loop and you can whiz around to the East or West side of the city very quickly (generally). If I were going to call CSS my home DZ, then I would live in Mini City...period. If I were going to call Raeford home, then I would live in Garner, Cary, or one of the small towns in between. Cary is right next to RTP (Research Triangle Park) and right off US-1 and the outer beltline, so it's not TOO far away from CSS, but still a hassle of a drive if you ask me. You can find very-rural locations near both Mini City and Cary if that is what you are looking for. ChuckMy webpage HERE
SkymonkeyONE 4 #19 April 24, 2002 Another note, in case you are surfing the web for housing: Highway 401 just north of downtown is called "Capitol Blvd". It stays known as that until you are well north of town, outside of Mini City. If you want more rural, tell them you want to look up HWY 401, north of the 401/US-1 split. It is the same distance to the DZ whether you go US-1 or HWY 401 from the split in Mini City, but US-1 is faster because of construction on 401.My webpage HERE

We thought we had an agency all set up, but then they were simply going to charge us for a listing we could get online (mostly). Anyway, my biggest concern has been what area we should live in, and we've already got a lot of good info on that.... seriously, thanks guys!Blues & we'll see ya soon! :o)"Pammi's Hemp/Skydiving Jewelry"
