Age and Skydivers

So I was out at the dz yesterday just hanging out because I can't jump with my sprained ankle and I'm chatting with one of the few women out there who's about my age, mid-20's. We are a small dz with a small group of regulars and most of them are late 30's, early 40's guys, and the few much younger women have dated quite a few of the much older guys, often with a 15 year age difference. So when I asked her what was up, she said that once you're a skydiver, you're just a skydiver. Everyone's the same so age makes no difference.
I sometimes feel weird when someone 15 years older then me hits on me, but this happen a lot out at the dz. I understand that tight groups tend to be "incestuous" with regards to sexuals relationships (one guy said to me, when you break up with a girl friend at the dz you don't loose a girlfriend, you loose your spot) but does this happen everywhere? I'm just curious.

I guess my only reference is that I was seeing a jumper who was 4 years older then me for a bit...*shrug* not quite the same, though. Although, the age thing doesn't seem to matter much at the DZ, with-in reason of course (Mrs. Robinson?).

I often feel weird at DZ seeing that I'm young and most people are at least 5-10 years older then me. I've found that after a short time... age is just a number with skydivers.
If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....

I see it a bit at my dz. This more experienced jumper offered to jump with me, I thought it was a nice gesture. Then, one of the dz owners told me... ya know mary, he is a nice guy, but watch out, he's lookin' for a wife. agagh! I still feel the age difference. He was about 40--I am 21.

I've been hit on in both directions - by guys 20 years older than me, and by guys 10 years younger than me. Hey... it's just nice to be hit on...
Age is just a number... although it is strange to be hit on by guys who are close in age to my son!

Yes, but that has gotten me in trouble at least once. We were going to have a POPS record boogie at Skdive Daytona and I asked a gal friend of ours if she was going to be here for it and she went off on my ass about not being anywhere near a POPS member. I remembered then that she was actually the same age as my oldest son, but I swear I never thought she was old!
It's just that with rare exceptions, I never think about another skydiver's age.

So, as a secondary question, if a 24 year old kisses a 40 year old do you think it's weird? Normal? Don't think about it? Would you feel comfortable doing it?

Gale......I am 38 and my man is 53. Age is just a number and life with Scotty. I never had any children but now I know what life with a teenager is like NO SHIT!!!!
And there is something to the saying "experience comes with age"!!!!

take it from the other side i started at 16 avg age of my mates at the dz was mid-late 20s, made me grow up pretty quick, it is a bit odd hanging around with people that are old enough to be my parents :)

I dated a 19 year old when I was 25. Even though it was only six years, six years is a huge gap at that time in our life. That was one of the most rewarding relationships I've been in - and I'm not talking about the sex.
Age is just a number, it's completely arbitrary. It hasn't meant anything since highschool, I think.
One of my good friends is 30 and dating a 22 year old. They have a truely wonderful, loving and equal relationship.
I see nothing wrong with age gaps. Physical age is literally the last thing I would consider when approaching a new relationship.

I am 26 and I have dated women between the ages of 19 and 35. I started my new assignment and my VP was reviewing my paperwork and was blown away that I was only 26. He said the tests I took, (Myers Briggs, Personality, etc) said I had the maturity of a 40 year old. Funny, because I might seem this way when I am serious, yet I can be a total opposite. I know when to turn it off I guess you can say.

yeah, age *is* just a number...my two thoughts on that...
1. of my ff team, i'm 24, girl up from me is 32, guy up from her is 40. they date, but him and i have as much fun at the dz or bars as me and any of my school friends, and i get along with her great too.
2. a guy from work told me "a woman's romantic interests mature as she does. for a guy, his romantic interests are the same for the rest of his life as the day as he turns 18." so does that mean i'll be a naughty ol 40 year old someday hitting on cute 19 year old girls? youch! hope not. in the meantime, i'm an equal opportunity lover. (as long as they are not old enough to be my mom, that might weird me out)

Yes, and yes. I grew up near the beach and surfed before skydiving. You see much of the same types of couples/relationships there as well. All guys want the "newest" model, so to speak. And the dropzone is no different. Only better because all the hotties can participate in the sport rather than hanging out on the beach as useless eyecandy. Peace, out.
