Newbie 0 #1 April 30, 2002 could someone turn to page 137 and tell me what the hell is going on in that pic? (its the horse mal pic)To me it looks like he is still holding the PC and the main is still in its bag above his head. Thanks
Darkzone 0 #2 April 30, 2002 I've never jumped a 'pullout' but from what I gather if you don't let go of the PC quickly enough, the drag on the bridle line can be enough to pull the pin on the main container so releasing the bag and deploying lines while the wearer still has the PC in his/her hand.I'm sure someone more experienced will correct me if I'm wrongWhooooohooooo!!! rgoper 0 #3 April 30, 2002 in this photograph, it would appear that the sky diver is trying to rid him self of the pc. this was done as a training aid, thus the other sky divers in the air with him. the horseshoe mal is one of my most "respected" mals, i've never had one, and hope i never do, but in the event i do, i'll handle it, loss of altitude awareness is the most common during such a "confusing" mal. all the more reason to wear an "audible" device, so at your "hard deck" you can initiate emergency procedures regardless of whatever else is happening. i've seen a jumper in a training video have a horseshoe mal, cut away first, then he fought to release the left riser, was fighting to release the right riser, and the "audible" went off, he deployed his reserve, despite not having "cleared" his mal entirely.Richard"Gravity Is My Friend"

One of the bennies of the "pullout", if you listen to pud pullers, is the lowered probability of a horseshoe mal. Also, if you use a "throwout", and hold on to the PC too long, you will only have a horseshoe mal until you let go of the PC. Then you will probably have a baglock type mal. A high speed mal, but a higher probability of having a clean deployment. I think. flyhi
