lummy 4 #1 May 1, 2002 I was interested if any of you Techies have any experience with Magic from Network Associates... Any likes, dislikes?I am partial to Remedy but that's not an option in this positionI've got to stop wishing, got to go fishing, I'm down to rock bottom again.... skycat 0 #2 May 1, 2002 Well I've worked with both Remedy(Williams) and Magic(McLeodUSA) I prefered Remedy for it's ease of use and customization. Magic the whole time just seemed to be a pain in the ass. On the other hand I was part of the development of the Remedy system at the one company and Magic was already implemented at the other. So Magic may have some good points, but the poor implementation of it definately turned me off to it. Also Magic was constantly going down and having updates done to it, but like I said that could have had more to do with who was sustaining it than the actual system. AndyMan 7 #4 May 1, 2002 my PHB went in for the Rational Suite. Personally, I think it is one of the most overpriced useless pieces of software out there.I gave up trying to implement ClearQuest. It was just too dificult._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
lummy 4 #5 May 1, 2002 Hmmmm... I don't remember using Remedy at Williams, but then again, they had just bought out that division from NorTel and it was SOO long ago.Was the Magic that you had at McLeod the latest incarnation, being Web based using IIS and a SQL backend? From the presentation, it looks to have all the features that we'd like to implement, and most of the criteria that I have set. I just wish Remedy were an option.... sighI understand completely how good a product is based on how it is implemented. My last position used Remedy except the Schema was completely redoneby our parent company in Germany... I made due with it the best I could and fought like a banshee to get some of the functionality from the standard schema put back in... Andy.. Rationality Suite? Is that part of magic? I didn't hear it mentioned in the pres....Chromie.. What am I going to do with you, you shtinkin PW :)I've got to stop wishing, got to go fishing, I'm down to rock bottom again.... skycat 0 #6 May 1, 2002 Yeah they implemented it right after the buyout, had it interfacing with the Netcool monitoring system with tons of automation. Yep that is the Magic version they were using. I'm sure it is a great product, and the web interface could be a life saver, but comeing from the NMS (network management systems) side of the house, it was a headache to keep up with the corporate guys trying to fix bugs and stuff. They never let us get a look at it from the systems side probably cause they knew we would have figured out how to fix it which would have meant it would have became another one of our systems and they would have been out of a job. *evilgrin*
AndyMan 7 #7 May 1, 2002 Lummy, no. Rational is a competing suite of overpriced products. Suffice it to say I do not recomend them.http://www.rational.com_AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
