james1010 0 #1 May 2, 2002 Just got the April issue of Fast Company (marketing magazine). In it is this great article on a lady named Cheryl Stearns, I'm sure alot of you know her, but being new to this sport, I've just now heard of her. Anyway you can read the article online here She's planning on a jump from 130k, and hoping to break the sound barrier.Enjoy,James
freeflir29 0 #2 May 2, 2002 Cool article.....I had kind of wondered how many jumps Cheryl had. I just knew it was "a lot" but I'm never the type to ask. I think it sort of rude unless you are jumping with the person and need to know for safety/organizing. The thing the article didn't mention was WHEN she plans on trying this jump. Oh....and "The Golden Knights Drop Zone at Raeford Parachute Center" was pretty funny too. "It's all about the BOOBIES!"
zelda 0 #3 May 2, 2002 There's an article about this in Sports Illustrated; not sure which issue, but within the last couple of weeks. It's about Cheryl and the other two who are trying to break Col. Kittinger's record. Cheryl is slated to do it, I think, next year, but she doesn't have the funding yet, so it's anybody's guess. She has a website for it, possibly www.stratquest.com-zelda
james1010 0 #4 May 2, 2002 Well, I tried her website and stratquest, niether seem to be working. I keep getting a URL not found error for hers, and a Coming Soon announcement for stratquest.James
quade 4 #5 May 2, 2002 Yeah, she's been around for quite awhile.Hope she gets all the proper funding for her attempt. THAT is the most difficult thing she has to deal with.quadehttp://futurecam.com

james1010 0 #10 May 2, 2002 Interesting sidenote:My very first tandem was with Mike Zang, the current 24-hour record holder . . helluva nice guy, but then most people I've met so far in this sport are well above the norm.James
indyz 1 #11 May 2, 2002 How do you do that many jumps in 24 hours? Low static lines from helicopters or something?--Brian
james1010 0 #12 May 2, 2002 I wasn't there when he made the record, but I was out there one week-end when they were practicing. Very smooth operation. Tom Bishop (DZO) flew the porter and I believe he set his own record for most take-offs and landings. They even had a rain delay and still pulled it off.James
pilotdave 0 #13 May 2, 2002 Those with fast internet connections (although not too fast since my server has been slow lately) might want to check out stratoquest.mpg in the /from tv/ folder on my server. It's a 5 minute clip from Discovery News about her.Davehttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
xybe 0 #14 May 3, 2002 Mod -1 offtopicSorry for the slashdot reference but if I ever see the headline "Leap of faith" (or "plummeted to his/her death") on a maninstream news article about skydiving I'm gonna puke all over my screen. The USPA should have a page in their website with other clichés like:Boldy falling where no man han gone before.Still shedding whuffo-nessCheck out the Hardcore Whuffo pages

freeflir29 0 #18 May 3, 2002 QuoteHave you called them to ask wtf Clay?Yes I have...called once at about 3-4 weeks and he said "Oh cutting it today and it should ship out by the end of next week." Called again 2 weeks later...."Oh it should ship out by the end of the week." I called him yesterday and today and didn't get an answer so I finally just left a message politely (as much politeness as I could muster) informing him that it had been 66 days since I ordered the suit and 28 since he charged me for it. I think in just about anybody's book thats a long damn time to wait. So....I don't feel bad at all letting the public know of my experince with ordering from Michigan. "It's all about the BOOBIES!"
