drenaline 0 #1 May 9, 2002 I dunno if you have done it but it's really fun to go in a fast car at full speed put on your goggles and stick your head out of the window (in the passenger sit of course, have a driver for that and make sure there are no cars outside), you get to feel the speed, the wind, the pressure, almost like sticking your head out of the cessna for the spot.Been on earth for to much... gotta jump gotta jump..."Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?"drenaline
SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 May 9, 2002 You forgot to mention that you shout "5 left" to the diver and open the door !! When I grow up, I want to be a post whore
nacmacfeegle 0 #3 May 9, 2002 When your trying to explain how 'body pilot' stuff works, its good to get a whuffoe to put their hand out the window, and see how the wind applies different forces etc......Gets em thinking more about flying, rather than falling.CyaD

Sebazz1 2 #6 May 9, 2002 Since we are talking about skydiving and cars, do you ~carw~. It's kinda like RW in the old days were you pass a baton between skydivers, well in this case you pass something between two cars.........err wait this is a public forum um well I have heard of people doing this ~carw~ stuff...........Fun to do but very very dangerous but funSebazz........ Haeloth 0 #10 May 9, 2002 It is very hard to keep drunken skydivers in a van from spotting. Especially if it has rear door or sliding side door. nacmacfeegle 0 #12 May 9, 2002 So, I'm in Palatka, on their Cessna back in '93. It was my first (I know, beer!) self spot (required for s/l prog). Its a brand new diver driver on the DZ.I stick out the melon, and stare intently at the dz. I glance at Bram Clemens, my instructor and he smiles knowingly .... spot, spot, spot, spot, spot, spot, for a verry long time. I give my first ever correction (mucho beer was bought on that trip) "180 right". After a brief altercation with the pilot, I got my thigh crushing 'big G' 180 right.....Yup, the 'jump run' was a down winder.A bit a curve ball for newbie n'est pas?Log book said "acceptable spotting, cleared for next level", ya gotta admire the Dutch sense of understatement.Anyone know where Bram is these days??CyaD

SkydiveMonkey 0 #14 May 9, 2002 You cut the engine? We don't. If your last out, you've got less altitude to play with When I grow up, I want to be a post whore
freeflir29 0 #15 May 9, 2002 QuoteYup, the 'jump run' was a down winder.I never thought that really mattered all that much. As long as you have an acceptable exit plan. Pretty damn good for a newbie. Better than mine....seems there was a bit of "Industrial haze" right below us. The JM could tell where we were by a landmark about 2 miles from the DZ. I stared....He yells "GO!" I look up and ask "NOW?"....."Yes get out!!!!" So, I went....we were getting a little long but it was OK. "It's all about the BOOBIES!"

jtval 0 #19 May 9, 2002 i miss my trips to the dz with my buddy. We would do shit like this all the time.the first time we did it we were way low-timers and we got winded(over14mhp) off our jumps.so we had a three hr ride home. I looked over at my buddy, Mark, and said "think you can get to 120?" he smiled and preceded to get to 120... with my head and arms out the window. all the time i was "whoooo-hoooin' at all the cars i was passing. Titanic didnt have shit on us ground bound skydivers.!getting high is fun, but coming down is the best partJT
indyz 1 #20 May 9, 2002 I think the url is http://www.headdown.net/archive/movies/cuttaisforbogs.mpeg. The picture showed 4 cars side-by-side. It's a 30 meg file and I'm only getting 9.8k/sec on ResNet. Something ain't right.--Brian
Sinkster 0 #21 May 9, 2002 Quote [You forgot to mention that you shout "5 left" to the diver and open the door]You forgot to yell CUT, than open door At my DZ when I had to do my first spot they had me open the door before giving any corrections at all so I could see better and especially so you could look straight down and yell cut right over the perfect spot! Sticking my head out when the engine was going full blast was a lot of fun! heheThat first hop-n-pop and cessna ride (jump 15) was a FUN jump! Scary as *&@#! for my AFF self (I almost never curse but I said "OH SH1T!" before diving off the step into what I recall as a wonderfully slow and stable wind compared to the super twin otter and felt very justified in expressing myself like that! In fact, if I was not addicted to skydiving before, I sure am now! Anyone else experience this transition too? The fear just melted away and I don't know for sure how, but I definately like it. The respect remains of course. But I'm so glad I persevered! What a wonderful experience skydiving is.-Sinkster
