hobbes4star 0 #51 May 9, 2002 i am i only jump out of otters, king airs, skyvans, and porters. but i trained in a 182, so i know how you feel. why jump when you can fly
billvon 3,090 #52 May 9, 2002 As I learned to skydive out of a C182 I will always have a soft spot in my heart for them. Like riding in a sports car instead of a passenger jet. Sure, the jet's faster, but in the sports car you can bug the driver, buzz mailboxes and mess with the people in back.-bill von
nacmacfeegle 0 #53 May 9, 2002 Now then Zennie, you are NOT a turbine snob, I've seen you grinning on a 182........And also organising enough peeps to get the thing flying in between turbine lifts, cmon out of the Cessna closet and admit it (I think you are in Cessna denial), your just a jumping fool like the rest of us But yes, we are spoiled at the Spaceplace, not just with planes, but also with cool people to frolic with.....cya friday afternoon?CyaD
GrumpySmurf 0 #54 May 9, 2002 You think a 182 is bad, try a 172 sometime - there isn't even enough room for a pilot, 3 jumpers and the door - so the door has to go - think of a 182, less room, windy, loud, and can only make it to 7,500 in anything less than half an hour C-1xx's rock though, you can use the wing strut as a jungle gym Even funnier when the pilot forgets to set the wheel brake and someone steps onto the wheel and off they goooooooo...... I felt bad for him. It's not like it was his fault. I guess it kinda freaked the student out too because the camera guy was able to grab the step for about 1 sec and hang there....."It's all about the BOOBIES!" Pammi 0 #58 May 9, 2002 Quote....even the 205 going to 2500 on overcast days......you'll NEVER get that out of the Caravan..... but most of you turbine snobs ROFLMAO!! Only got this far then had to laugh! I love a fast climb, but if it goes up and will take me with it, I'm there :) I don't care what it is. It's odd, I suppose, but it's kind fun all squished up in there with as many of your buds as you can haul for a good 20-30 minutes. Talk about time to bond! hehe'Nuthin

MrHixxx 0 #60 May 9, 2002 I follow the general ethos "Its all good!" I'll jump anything anytime(weather permitting) as long as I can get say 2500 AGL. Cessnas can be a lot of fun especially if you are doing 12ways out of 3 of them...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I hate that plane with a passion. I fell asleap on the climbup to altitude. Then at about 10 grand tried to get out without snagging anything, which was kind of hard. Getting a hold of that damn strut was pretty damn difficult, my shoulder ended up popping out in the process. I decided to make another jump right after, even though my shoulder was still sore, which was a mistake, because I did the exact same thing to it on exit, which made any sort of movement during freefall impossible. I couldn't even flare on landing.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I think I am clean out of tissues for ya on this one :)-Hixxx"Sous ma tub, Dr. Suess ma tub"
PhreeZone 20 #61 May 9, 2002 Try a 152.... Got one of those lined up for a mini demo this summer that I might do... Its a freaking tight fit with a rig on... and oh yeah, I have to leave the door on the plane...If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.... HeatherB 0 #62 May 9, 2002 I'm spoiled but not a snob, how about that? Last weekend at Sebastian the Caravan did seem painfully slow, but at least it's a nice view!My first 15 jumps were from Cessnas, so I'm not an Otter Baby in the strictest sense, right?blue skies!HeatherKeep pulling handles!!! GrumpySmurf 0 #63 May 9, 2002 Yikes, so will the plane have room for a pilot, or is it considered 'disposable' ?
PhreeZone 20 #64 May 9, 2002 Got the pilot and the plane... that's ALL that will fit. Have to leave the door on since in it's contract it says we can't modify the plane at all... Tee 0 #65 May 9, 2002 [whiney voice] No fair, I wanna be a turbine snob! [/whiney voice] Actually I have jumped from otters, caravans, king airs, skyvans, a fokker etc. and as fantastic as they are. I would miss our turbo 182 and 206s. Like Skybytch says, there is something to be said about the experience of sitting on the floor in a tangled mess with your fellow jumpers and kissing the pilot on the way out. (the wide body, turbo cessnas with extra large steps are a must though) However, I wouldn't kick a turbine out of our dz! Tee

FallinWoman 1 #67 May 9, 2002 ok, like everyone else I prefer to jump a turbine, if itis taking off. This winter, however, I had a blast jumping the 182. At one point canopcudler, gary peek, another jumper and myself launched a diamond from the 182. i had no idea what we were doing until the piece actually came off the plane perfectly. SWEET!!!!!I don't think I have ever laughed as hard as when Tina and I try to figure out how to exit the 182....."Wait, which way am I facing?"Anne

Jonno5 0 #70 May 10, 2002 I like Cessna's.I like Turbines more but as has been said the 182 is fun (dont like being in the V though).Helicopters now, i will not fly or fly in if they dont run on Jet-A.Ive been on the receiving end of an engine failure in a helicopter and turbines are just that much more reliable.Having said that the engine-out was in a turbine,so i guess my theory is in fact bollocks. But i still wont fly in anything else. Snowflake 0 #71 May 10, 2002 Whats a Cessna? Is that like a small otter or something? I've never jumped anything but otters in my short career, but I'll be fixing that this summerJG
lummy 4 #72 May 10, 2002 Cessna's scared the crap out of me when I did my AFF 3 and 4.. They wanted me to climb out? I paid damned good money to JUMP out of a plane, not hang from one like Tarzan.I do have to admit that Hop n pops are fun as heck out of one tho :)One shot... HEY!!! Mas Tequila!!!!Two Shots HEY HEY!!!!Three Shots.......
rogue108 0 #73 May 10, 2002 A 1/3 of my jumps are out of a Cessna and I don't mind jumping them at all. Actually I prefer jumping Cessna's on certain days. When I want things slow and laid back I head to my Cessna dropzone where things are friendly and intimate.
wlie 0 #74 May 10, 2002 You used the "FIRST" word and that's a case of beer! Like my first jump from an Otter, Caravan, and my FIRST skydive injury - badly spained ankle due to avoiding a collision on landing.Ain't anythin' wrong w/ Cessna's. Did my first jump on one. Cessna's kept me current during the winter (hop-n-pops like everytime the weather's crappy). My first freefall, and all the delays before getting promoted to go full altitude. My first potential jumper-in-tow because my reserve ripcord was dangling when I climbed out (got a talking from the pilot and now I constantly check all my handles during climb and right before exit).I must say that the big planes definitely spoil you. But until I can levetate, I ain't complainin'
Topcat 0 #75 May 10, 2002 Not me. I got out of the snob habit when my old dz closed.Mind you, larger planes are nice because they get you more altitude at a faster rate, but I have noticed some nice things about 182's:Nice to have on slow/cloudy daysCheaperEasy to spot (or should be - it is truly a lost art)Cessna DZs tend to be friendlier - young jumpers especially don't get lost in the shuffle as easy. Many times at our dz I have seen more experienced jumpers take newbies with them simply because they were all on the same Cessna load. That's another thing - newbies can't be talked into doing big -ways as easy at a Cessna DZ.Don't hate Cessnas. One day you might have to move to a place where that is your only option. -Sandy
