kmcguffee 0 #26 May 9, 2002 You can jump from something else besides a Cessna 182? Hmmmm.........guess I'll have to try that some day. I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.

PhreeZone 20 #28 May 9, 2002 Um... I'm a bit interesting in the other activity tooI could care less what the plane is C182, Otter, Casa... they are all good... 182's are great for bad weather days and then the Casa keeps me happy with its ability to do a 32 way from one plane...If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.... AndyMan 7 #30 May 9, 2002 QuoteHardly surprising, the Caravan is the only plane ever purpose designed for skydiving, I think I read somewhere once......Not very well, then... The horizontal stabalizer is too low, which gives it a good risk of a premature deployment ripping the tail off. The otter is a much better plane for skydiving simply because it's got the high tail. It takes talent to rip the tail off an otter...Caravans are nice planes, but they were designed as multi-use workhorses, and not specificly skydiving. Most frequently used for cargo, but sometimes passenger service into obscure locations.you can read about them here: http://caravan.cessna.com/_AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
nacmacfeegle 0 #31 May 9, 2002 "and not specificly skydiving"I read the "purpose designed for skydiving" in one of those wee plane spotter books at the 'Wings' shop in Schiphol, waiting for a connection to Budapest. Mebbe it was just BS after all. Thanks for the link AndyMan. CyaD
Lindsey 0 #32 May 9, 2002 Hmmmm.....I don't recall ever hearing about the tail being ripped off a Caravan before? Now a 182.....yeah! Has that ever happened before to a Caravan? A friend of mine was towed behind a Caravan after getting hung up, but finally his jumpsuit ripped and he fell away..... Just hearing about these things always gets the epinephrine flowing....But a Caravan is my very favorite turbine.....it's just so easy to jump out of..... No huge prop blast....just nice and easy.... I have to say, though, that I have so few actual turbine jumps....probably less than a hundred or a hundred fifty....that I never really learned how to exit one well anyway.....but I can take anything off the step of the 205.....some days it's just not worth gnawing through the straps

Scratch 0 #34 May 9, 2002 Those of you knocking the old Cessna have obviously not had the pleasure of watching a skydiver run on the wheel like a hamster because the pilot 'forgot' to step on the brakes.I regularly jump from a 210 which has a retractable undercarriage and as a result there is no step at all. Steps are for pansies.I wish the real worldwould just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

Staso 0 #36 May 9, 2002 i can't really say that i enjoy roominess of cessna :), but i like jump cessna nowand then because of its slower jump run speed. it gives you sorta feeling of fallingwhen you leave the strut.what i can't understand is how people manage to dislocate shoulders or somethingelse during some simple activities, like cnaging tires, being in freefall (and i'm not talking about freefall collision) or climbing out ?stan. jfields 0 #39 May 9, 2002 I'm with the Remster. I'm a jet snob in denial. A friend of mine was towed behind a Caravan after getting hung up, but finally his jumpsuit ripped and he fell away..... Just hearing about these things always gets the epinephrine flowing....Um... yeah, actually. Last year in Australia, it killed the jumper. Through sheer machismo the pilot struggled with the plane until all the jumpers got out, then he bailed himself with his pilot rig. It was estimated the pilot left the plane at about 600 feet. The plane crashed into a field. You can read about it here_AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

nacmacfeegle 0 #42 May 9, 2002 Curious about the lessons learned re tuck tabs, "He was jumping a well-maintained 98/99 model Javelin NJ, which does have a tuck-tab type reserve closing flap."followed by"It is unknown if this jumper's reserve flap had a bottom tuck-tab or flap, which can reduce the likelihood of this type of accident by making it harder to slide the flap open."CyaD

diverdriver 6 #46 May 9, 2002 Hey Sebazz, you can't count that 206 Jess has. That's a ballsy Cessna. We were doing loads of 5 to 12K in 12 minutes. That's a nice monster engine on there. If I were starting a DZ I'd get a 206 just like it with the IO-550 engine. Nice cargo door with slide up lexan door. Shoobi mat. With Shoobi bail out SQUARE reserve. Sweet setup.Chris Schindlerwww.DiverDriver.com

indyz 1 #49 May 9, 2002 Quotei was becoming a tubine snob, then marc and i had 2 kickass jumps out of the ole 182 yesterday.....exiting the cessna has its own special fun.Ditto. Maybe it's because I'm a static line kid and I made my first 20 jumps from a 182, but I like that plane. My new favorite exit is to just hop off of the step facing the tail so that I end up on my back watching the plane.--Brian
Zennie 0 #50 May 9, 2002 <>Yep, I'm spoiled. But like most folks here, I'll jump anything that'll take me to altitude. I do think everyone should do a C-182 jump to altitude every once in a while to appreciate the turbines.Just to give you an idea of how spoiled we S-landers are, we just got another Otter. Since the second one is a "regular" Otter, people were commenting on how slow it was. It is a noticeable difference from our Super Otter, but heck, whatever's available to take me up is good by me. Plus the straddle seats on the "slow" one are more comfy than the benches. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
