ltdiver 3 #1 May 12, 2002 For those of you who've been following my posts on my teammate, Barney, here is the latest update! Pneumonia kept him bed ridden in the hospital, on a ventilator and comatose, for 5 weeks. Here is the update from his physical therapist, a skydiver and friend, Gina.Yahoo!!!Our get well wishes are printed and hanging on his hospital room wall. He is amazed at all the support he's recieved! I'm sure that this, along with the fact that he's a skydiver, is what's pulling him through! ltdiver-----------------BARNEY DID IT!!!! He's still off the ventilator!!!! I spent several hours with him today and I'm just amazed by his strength. He's even taking several steps to sit in the chair and while I was there he kept wanting to sit up at the edge of the bed. From a therapist's perspective, he is a true miracle. I've never seen anyone with such strength after being in bed for as long as he has been. The hopeful plan for the next week is to have a speech therapist evaluate his swallowing and speech. He/she will hopefully provide a special valve for his tracheostomy so that he will be able to speak. Barney also wants despartely to start eating and drinking. Currently, he's getting ice chips. He is very lucid now it's great to talk to him. Sometimes it's hard to read his lips but he can write too. He told me he's going crazy being there and would appreciate visitors to make his days go faster. So, if you haven't yet and live in the area, PLEASE stop by and see him. He's ready!!! Please continue with your positive thoughts and prayers. ____________________________________________LightDiverCam
