i did it. the silly bastards at the bank lent me the money for a car. it's a 97, but it's the nicest car i've ever driven, let alone owned. and, as a bonus, i was preapproved for the asking price and managed to talk them down enough that there's enough left over for pff! woohoo! [big silly grin]:D

actually, i skipped YUPpie (young urban professional) and DINK (dual income, no kids) and went straight to SITCOM (single income, two children, oppressive mortgage). actually, we are still dual income, but the rest fits. :D

well, i did the math and figured that since it is five years old the depreciation has slowed down enough that it can be observed with the naked eye, the insurance isn't much higher than the old car. i was spending about $1k a year on the old car to keep it running, this one shouldn't be much more, and as i pointed out, i have the $$$ for pff now, so i should jump more!

it's a 97 318i. the littlest of the litter, but i couldn't believe how it hauled ass for a small motor. drove it about 200 miles home from the dealer, mostly highway but did a side trip on some twisty two lanes. sweet handling car compared to what i'm used to. and that's with a standard suspension and 15" 65 series mud and snow tires. might invest in some 17" performance tires and wheels next year.
