chicagoskydiver 0 #1 May 19, 2002 I had promised a friend of mine a while back that when she was ready to do her first tandem I would go out to the dz with her. Well, she decided that yesterday was the day, and as promised, I went out to the dz (Skydive Illinois). Since I was there I said wtf and did a recurrency jump. Of course, I got the comments I expected like "What are you doing here? I thought you quit!" and " Yeah, right you quit! You quit my ass!" Of course they welcomed me with open arms. I was kind of nervous about it. I thought I would be really stiff and buffeting and that I would totally blow it. Then on the ride to altitude I thought "You know what? WTF!! If I blow it, I blow it! I'm just gonna have some fun!" Of course, I was with a JM. The exit was perfect and I flew great, actually better than I did on my last jump back in January. Came down for a nice stand up landing. Man, did it feel great! Maybe I'll do one every once in a while to stay current. Ok everyone, let's hear it! I told ya so, right?Hackey

I knew better, because once you've experienced the thrill and excitement of free fall and the ability to save your own life after flinging yourself from an airplane. You can NEVER go back to "real life" an not long for the butterflies in your stomache the thoughts of gliding into a slot then seeing the huge smiles on everyones faces. Glad to see your in the air on a part time basis. I'll have to give Bagwell a call and let him know. I have counting today 25 days till I loose currency. If I hadn't come down with this stupid head cold I woulda jumped Sunday!!! !#$(^&!#$(&^(& Welp I have time still.......My New Website with 24hr Chat
 SkymonkeyONE 4 #8 May 20, 2002 Hackey,In my nearly 22 years of skydiving I have "quit" several times; one time even selling my last rig. Still, I would wander out to the DZ once or twice a year and hop on a load. I got plenty of the "I thought you were dead" crap, but that all ended when I let my experience show. The worse part in my opinion was going from "BMODZ" to just some guy who "used to skydive here". Once I would get back into it full-force the last time, I could not let myself get distracted with other fringe activities. I am too close to retirement to not have my shit completely wired for my soon to be full-time DZ occupation. As a result, I don't get out on the water much anymore or do any of the other stuff I used to spend so much time doing. Maybe after I retire I will be able to split my leisure time in a more equitable fashion, but for now, I am totally stoked to be back skydiving enough to be on the cutting edge. The bottom line here is that while you may take breaks, the sport and it's participants move on. It will be here anytime you have the time and money to spend on it. The faces may not be the same when you return in full force, but the "people" will be and they will welcome you with open arms once you prove yourself.Anybody want to buy a 96 Sea Doo XP (not stock) with a trailer for cheap? Even now, I have a list of projects to do about as long as my arm. A skydiver with priorities....what a concept! LOL! By the way, it's great to hear from you! I hope things are going great for you in Florida! I'll never forget when you came to see me in the ER after I busted my ankle while on student status. Thanks also to everyone else for your kind words. Ann, if I don't get to see you when you come this way, I'll be very disappointed and you bet we're gonna do a jump together! Wild horses couldn't keep me away from that!Well, I guess this sport is a permanent part of me no matter what. I may have other priorities, but it will be there.Hackey
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
