Computer Problems!!!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever had this problem? My desktop icons move away from my cursor by themselves. It is like they don't want me to click them. I have performed a virus scan and do not have any viruses that I can find. I have uninstalled the last few programs that I installed and it didn't help. It is weird.
When I restart my computer it stops for a few minutes and then starts back. Anybody have any ideas?

How you find it....I haven't a clue

Maybe try checking the startup menu from the start menu.. was the cause of some of my computer 'problems' while in college

Look under Start / Programs / Startup / see if there's anything weird in there.
If there's nothing non standard, go Start / run and type regedit.
BE VERY CAREFUL FROM HERE ON:
Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Run
List off what is on the right hand panel.... post it here. there's probably something we should delete.

I found some weird program (DLHelperEXE) in my startup menu that I didn't place there and deleted it. I restarted my computer and thought that you had found the problem but it has started back now. grrrrrrrrrrrr! Now I wonder what else I have screwed up by deleting that program.

What Version of windows are you running??. The easyiest way to find out what is running on startup is to click start then click run and in the run window type msconfig at the top of the window there is a tab that says startup click that tab and there will be a bunch of check boxes uncheck the items that you do not want to startup when you start your computer. Not sure what program to tell you to uncheck but a little trial and error should do the trick. The msconfig program does not come with every version of windows so if you cant find it there are a few other places to check for programs starting up. Try that first and if you dont have msconfig let me know and i will see if i can help some more.

Doubt you would screw anything up by taking it out. in fact you usualy make your computer run better by removing all the crap from the startup folder. Like i said in my previos post use the msconfig program to do it because you can always go back and put the checks back into the boxes and the programs will start back again when you reboot your computer.

I'm not going to go as far as Matt, but I do see you have new.net installed. I would definatly nuke that - you can do it through Start / Control Pannel / Add Remove Programs.
I'd also remove anything from there that looks weird...
Back to the stuff in regedit.... The VsecomrEXE stuff is mcafee virus scan, you definatley want to leave that in. Same with VsStatEXE.

Thanks alot guys. It looks like one of those did the trick. Now I'll add them back one at a time until it starts doing it again. I'll let you know which one it was this evening just FYI. Now I've just got to find the SOB that sent it to me. :D

Well it will only hurt if you download a virus :)But on the serious side it looks like you may have 2 virus programs running??? if thats the case i would just stick with one no real need for 2 unless your really the parionid type. And as for putting stuff back in I woulden't even bother unless something stops working witch 99% of the time it dosent.
Matt
P.S. I finaly found something that i can post whore on!!!

What is new.net?

New.net was some brain surgeons idea to create alternative top level domains on the internet. (ie, .com, .edu), etc. The idea failled, and new.net was constantly accused of tracking what websites people were visiting.
