moodyskydiver 0 #1 May 23, 2002 Like all of you, I am now addicted to skydiving. I'm about to start ground school and an AFF course. In your opinion, what would be a good rig for me once I have my USPA?Thanx for your input!
FallRate 0 #2 May 23, 2002 Well, seeing as I'm awake, I'll give you an opinion. I'm thinking a piggyback harness/container system with reserve and main canopies (one of each). An AAD is optional but highly recommended. I've found that an alitimeter comes in handy on occasion, so you might want to think about adding that to your list. (Sorry...wanted to do that for the longest time.) Actually, there are way too many options and variables for there to be an ideal first rig. Many people buying their first rig are concerned with cost. The least expensive containers that I know of are the Dolphin by Altico, the Genera by Rigging Innovations and the Naro by PISA. All three are Safe and Affordable. As far as canopies go, there are a bunch of gently used main canopies on the market which really helps to save money. Reserves with no prior use (or very little) are also available from people who have decided to downsize their complete rig. But the best way to go about choosing a rig is to talk to a rigger/dealer and other more experienced jumpers at your home DZ, and talk to them extensively! If you do decide to purchase per-owned gear, you should have a rigger inspect it thoroughly before you make the purchase. If cost is not a factor, well then, you make too much money!!!
