GrumpySmurf 0 #1 May 30, 2002 This happened this morning here in Madison, Lake Mendota is one of two lakes that border the downtown core of Madison and is frequented by alot of boaters. I wonder if the no-wake policy was in effect, and if applies to F-16's dropping stuff Whatever you do, don't toss a lit cigarette into the water http://www.wkowtv.com/$spindb.query.listnews.storeview.7312.newsF-16 EmergencyThu 05-30-2002 , 10:09 amPlane drops fuel tanks into Lake Mendota during emergency landing.Just before 9:30 Thursday morning, a F-16 fighter jet dumped both of it's fuel tanks into Madison's Lake Mendota. wlie 0 #2 May 31, 2002 That must've scared all the fish!Last Friday's jump of the day was an intentional water landing I chose to do as part of the water training requirement for my B license. Just the sight of 4 skydivers over the lake drew a few WOWs from the residents. But fuel tanks from an F-16. Oooh.
skydiverbrian 0 #3 May 31, 2002 Wow! You actually did LIVE water training?? GrumpySmurf and I did our water training last year. We jumped off the dock with old gear on and someone threw the canopy over our heads. It was alot harder than I thought it would be. Lesson learned: don't land in the water! Work sucks. Let's skydive! Cornholio 0 #4 May 31, 2002 Quote. We jumped off the dock with old gear on and someone threw the canopy over our heads.Yeah, that is what happened for my live water training too. Piece of cake... just swim out from under the canopy and then remove the harness.Although I can't understand why someone would want to intentionally jump their own personal rig into the water. Why ?? The rig we used for training was made especially for that purpose. __________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you. skydiverbrian 0 #5 May 31, 2002 Well, no one ever accused me of being a rocket scientist. I fought to get out of the harness before swimming out from under the canopy. Doh!I agree about the gear. Mine is far too valuable to be intentionally throwing into ponds. Work sucks. Let's skydive!
freeflir29 0 #6 May 31, 2002 Heheheehe....Man is that place bad luck or what? I watched an F-16 pilot punch out of his aircraft near there in 96 or so. He lost the engine and it wouldn't restart. Oh well....hello big gold handle!!! "Here I come to save the BOOBIES!"
kingbunky 3 #7 May 31, 2002 QuoteThis was ejection #5 5? holy crap, most people here are worried about losing or damaging a $1500 canopy! F16's go for more that that don't they? and even if you could find it, it's probably kinda wrinkled up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~bunkyget crazy, before it gets you. freeflir29 0 #8 May 31, 2002 Quote5? holy crapWell...to be fair...the first four were over Vietnam from F-4's. Not hard to lose a jet when people are shooting at you. Then you have the F-16...they don't call it "The Lawn Dart" for nothin....."Here I come to save the BOOBIES!"
