Iflyme 0 #1 May 31, 2002 I saw pictures of a Memorial Skydive yesterday on an NBC news feed... looked like a full otter load ... were any of you on this jump, and which of our fallen brothers was it in honour of ? I had to pause at work (in a tv newsroom) briefly, and pay my own respects as the pictures went by. I also saw pictures from a base jump that resulted in the death of the jumper --- from a transmission tower. Another sad day for those who love parachuting. diverdriver 7 #2 May 31, 2002 Team Funnel did a memorial jump this past weekend. 22 plus camera. 23. It built....not exactly as we planned...but it still looked pretty cool. Was real nice getting in the air with an all TF group and filling an otter. Wasn't that long ago that these were the "low timers" at SDC. My....how they've grown.And...I've been waiting for the official write up but I can wait any longer.......TF raised 5,300+ for Make A Wish Foundation to sponsor a child and grant their wish. For those not familiar with MWF they grant sick children their wishes to make their life a little more enjoyable during their illness. The cost of an average wish is 4,600 bucks and that was our goal. 950 dollars were raised by threatening to have TF males jump in bikinis. People could donate to "Make it happen" or "Gawd, please no...don't let it happen". Fortunate for the skydiving community the "don't let it happens" won.It was the charity of choice of one of our fallen TF members and thanks to Bill Homer TF #1 we were able to support that charity. Bill....my hats off to you. You organized, pushed, and challenged all to make this happen. You are an inspiration to all skydivers. Blue skies.I don't know if the video you saw was from our jump. airann 1 #3 May 31, 2002 Memorial jumps........ Rarely are perfect. My man, God love him, wouldnt come out of the bag.... had to do another one the next day. What a prankster. He just wanted to jump again with his mother on tandem. The dive went like this - going front to back -I was co-pilot, then CReW (4) Then Ash jumpers I cant remember 8 or so.. Thomas, Sean, Levin, Gary, Kyle, Eric Butts, Karen, and so on...The Plan:Memorial jumpers out - do their thing... and they land.Pilot and I do a 50 ft fly by I released my one garbage bag of rose petals over the runway and crowd.Then CReW lands 2 down planes.What happened:Formation did not come together, Mike stayed in the ash bag.The door slammed on my arm and I was stuck like that, with maybe 3 inches of space to get a garbage bag of petals thru. In addition, being that close to the ground it goes by too fast for you to figure out where you are. I knew as soon as the plane went vertical we had just went over the crowd and the drop was ok... but my arm stayed in the door until we landed. It healed in about 4 or 5 weeks.THEN, after the petal drop- One downplane skydiver broke her femur. I got to her after the plane landed and she was doing good for her injuries. EMT's were perfect and DaKine rags were not cut.Now somehow - My friend and her injuries was on tv, I am told.... Where did the TV people come from.....? Billy 0 #4 May 31, 2002 That is way cool and funny too..I'd like my ashes done like that,, an last time in AZ told my Dad that,, he can't jump Mom say's because of double hip replacement's,, said an ash jump would be nice an probably the only way he could do a skydive,, tune in later for the final chapter...
