scottbre 0 #1 June 4, 2002 Well, I finally had some decent pictures taken of me while I was under canopy. So attached is me a split second before landing, and that thing above me is my huge canopy.Notice how my hands are behind me, instead of in front. Shame on me. I live on the wrong coast. jtval 0 #17 June 4, 2002 this is copied from another thread. this is also why I expressed my concern about your downsize...QuoteI lost a very close friend of mine just about one week ago, and it's been a very tiresome week for all his family and his friends. I'm writing because the way he went should be reported fully, so that we all may learn from his fatal mistakes. Other wise it makes his death less meaningful, and I don't want my friend to have died needlessly. My friend died for two reasons. The first reason he died is the same way we lose so many of our brethren. He downsized to quickly and without proper training or instruction.Have fun, Live free, SKYDIVE!!Thttp://community.webshots.com/user/jtval100
rhino 0 #18 June 5, 2002 Hey man.. Noticed in that first picture you were reaching down with one leg.. Be carefull that will cause your landings to fubar sometimes, The canopy will turn in that direction, then you will reach and BIFF.. I've seen it a hundred times.. Fly it all the way to the ground my friend Cool pics Blue Skies .....
scottbre 0 #19 June 5, 2002 Quotethis is also why I expressed my concern about your downsize...I understand your concern and I plan on talking to people who have seen me land my canopy since I started skydiving before downsizing. I don't have any need for speed that close to the ground, I'm happy with the speed in the air right now. I'll probably also jump a canopy that size a handful of times before making any decisions. QuoteNoticed in that first picture you were reaching down with one leg.. Be carefull that will cause your landings to fubar sometimes, The canopy will turn in that direction, then you will reach and BIFF.. I noticed that it looks like one leg is extended more than the other in that picture too. However I don't think that anyone lands with their feet perfectly together, side by side. You have to lead with one foot a little in order to be able to take a step immediately after landing, should you need to. Also understand that this picture is literally inches off the ground the split second before touching the ground. Also, I think I have already mentioned this, but in that picture my arms are behind me and shouldn't be.I live on the wrong coast.
jtval 0 #20 June 5, 2002 good call on both of those. I bigger canopy is very forgiving to stuff like uneven legs arms behind ya etc.maybe you can demo a one 190 for 14 days to see if you like that then demo a 170. before you make a final decision. In no way a do I want to sound like I am questioning your ability but these are MY plans for downsizing. I fly a 210 now. I hear that a 190 may not have a noticable difference but its been about a years since I 18 months since I flew anything smaller. maybe Im being a pu$$y but uh, you are what you eat! Wait wrong comment. Maybe Im beiong a pu$$y but I want to KNOW that I can handle my landings. I still have a habit of flaring High.Have fun, Live free, SKYDIVE!!Thttp://community.webshots.com/user/jtval100
scottbre 0 #21 June 5, 2002 Yea, I don't really know exactly the course I will take yet. It will have a lot to do with what my DZO and other people who have been around since I have started seem to think. Haven't seen them in a few weeks so I will wait and see, plus it's not like I will magically have new stuff, even if I ordered it tomorrow, everything takes time, and that just equals more practice.I hurt my foot landing under my 220 and have no desire to fly something that I am not confident landing. My foot injury wasn't a big deal, but I definately don't care to find out what might break from my inability to handle a smaller canopy.I live on the wrong coast. scottbre 0 #23 June 5, 2002 It actually was a crew rig at one point. It has all the marking on it, and the thicker red colored 2 lines in it. Crew's scary though. It'll be awhile before I try that. This isn't the Cajun Chicken sandwich...
