Darkzone 0 #1 June 6, 2002 After several long months I have finally persuaded my SO into doing a tandem. She sort of wants to do it but admits to being petrified at the thought, obviously.I've tried to explain how safe the sport is these days and even showed her (about a bazillion times) the video of my mum's tandem and even volunteered to go up on the same lift to give her a little moral support but I don't seem to be able to make her more comfortable at the prospect.I thought a few words of encouragement from you lovely people might help and, if anyone who jumps at Langar will be there on Friday, June 14th might seek her out and gee her up a bit!Far away is close at hand in images of elsewhere. freeflir29 0 #2 June 6, 2002 QuoteI thought a few words of encouragement from you lovely people might helpIf she goes naked it will take her mind off the skydive....Seriously, I have seen so many tandem students that literally had to be pushed out the door. Then they get to the ground and feel so great that "they" did it. "Here I come to save the BOOBIES!"
Sebazz1 2 #3 June 6, 2002 Dude we haven't lost a student in weeks at my DZ. That should make her relax...........Sebazz........
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 June 6, 2002 Langar! Can you get Bananaman (Big Dave Morris) to do the tandem, he's one of the best I've seen. His sunset head down tandem at Vichy (from 98 I think) with his daughter was one of the best sequences I've seen for a long time, cool choonz on the video too. Knut Krecker did the video, and there were some very cool freefliers with him. Tell your SO and SO that, ooh don't forget to mention he's a British, European and world record holder too.But any of the regular TMs there are pretty shit hot, they have a good video crew there too.BTW I have no connections with Langar, in fact to my shame, I haven't even been there since 99.But i seem to recall Chuckles runs a mean bar, so be sure to hang out afterwards, and exchange no shit tales with Milko and the crew.Oh! good pilots too.....Yer SO will love it, but don't pressurise her into staying in the sport, more money for jump tickets for you CyaDGR# 37Remember how lucky you are to see and touch the sky; the blind may only dream. wlie 0 #5 June 6, 2002 I took my girlfriend and her mom to do their first tandem on Mother's Day. As the days got closer, at least my girlfriend was getting anxious; don't know about her mom - she hardly had any facial expression. I've promised to be on the same load so I could geek her. When they finally landed, they both had perma-grins. And they're still grinnin'.Since then, they've been thinking about skydiving. And they still have 6 months from that day to decide if they want to do the FJC and get a discount from having done the tandem.Only problem is, her mom's faulting me for the bug and insists that I chip in to her training fund. And my girlfriend seconded that and wants the same.

skybytch 273 #7 June 6, 2002 To Darkzone's SO - Being scared is normal and understandable; after all, you're contemplating throwing yourself at the ground at a high rate of speed. But... what you will get out of doing this jump will be worth every bit of fear and trepidation you are experiencing now (and will likely continue to experience until you're in freefall). Doing just this one jump will 1) show you that fear is not a good reason to not do something, 2) help you to understand why Darkzone loves skydiving so much, and 3) give you a feeling of accomplishment that few other activities can impart. It's okay to be scared. But go do it. You won't be sorry... well, you might be sorry if you end up addicted to freefall and spend all your money and most of your time at the dropzone, but that would just make you more like us, so we wouldn't be sorry at all! Seriously though. Go jump. You'll love it. pull & flare, lisa"Try not. Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda sez

So I arranged for him to be her TM.You're right about Chuckles bar. Had some wicked evenings there.Must take this opportunity to say what a magic DZ Langar is. Super friendly, great atmosphere, great jumpships, I owe them big time.QuoteI've promised to be on the same load so I could geek her. When they finally landed, they both had perma-grins. And they're still grinnin'.I would love to be able to jump with her but as I only got my A licence a month ago I don't think I'd be able to (don't have IC1 yet) Not sure of the rules there.Far away is close at hand in images of elsewhere. hooked 0 #10 June 7, 2002 That is such a good reply!!! It pretty much sums it all up!I didn't experience fear from jumping from a perfectly good airplane, just nervous that something would go wrong! The sense of accomplishment is SO TRUE! I can't begin to explain how skydiving will change you (providing you enjoy the skydiveI hope she enjoys her skydive as much as I did!J
