Jessica 0 #3 June 7, 2002 [Dr. Evil voice]One hundred BILLION dollars![/Dr. Evil voice]Here's what I spent. AFF was about $1,100, seven levels with no repeats.Used gear with Cypres was about $2,600.Post-AFF coach jumps came to about $200.Jump tickets plus gear rental for another 10 jumps or so was about $450.This was all a while back, and the student training program has changed. You need more coach jumps, but they probably won't all cost as much (I had to go through the Skydive University campus at my DZ).
Muenkel 0 #4 June 7, 2002 If you are planning on using rental gear from the DZ and figuring you do not have to repeat any level in aff and then complete the final jumps to get to the required 20, it is approximately $2000.I have to preface this by saying it will vary from one dz to another. This was the deal I got.Oh, I have to edit once again. Don't forget to figure in the beer."JANE, HOW DO YOU STOP THIS CRAZY THING?"Chris
fastmartin2002 0 #5 June 7, 2002 for u quade, probably not enough!
quade 4 #6 June 7, 2002 In all seriousness, it depends on how coordinated you are, how quickly you can learn things and how much you want to spend on your gear.Pretty wide variations from maybe $2,000 to maybe $5,000.quadehttp://futurecam.com
GroundZero 0 #7 June 7, 2002 More importantly... how much can you expect beyond that point?Plan on devoting 50% of your income for the rest of your life...Chris
Skyrose7 0 #8 June 7, 2002 sheesh, I thought I spent a lot. I did static line training, and got it done in 17 jumps. That costed $765. Used gear with cypres was $2400. don't forget the jumpsuit ($150), goggles ($20), helmet ($50), altimeter ($120)......The amount I have spent on beer is still pending. I just started paying on that. ugh. that is where they get ya. but it is worth so much more than just money. The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. Jasmin 0 #11 June 7, 2002 Oh and make sure you insure your gear as soon as you get it.My first rig was stolen from the DZ a week before my conversions. Saving up for another set me back heaps. My new gear with helmet, audible, cypress, new everything set me back about 4500, oh and factor in student gear hire for the year it took for me to save it too....very expensive. skydiverbrian 0 #18 June 7, 2002 Judging by the threads here, most places around the country will cost you +/- $2500 from first jump to A-license. Gear is a whole separate issue. Beer is very important, too, but should come only after you buy gear (since you can't really buy the amber nectar after "Look, Ma! No gear!")Insurance! Good point. Call your insurance company and ask. Mine is covered under my homeowners policy. That includes while it's in my car and on the DZ. I don't even have to carry it as a special rider. But they did make sure to tell me that they won't cover any damages caused by malfunctions. Work sucks. Let's skydive!
PhreeZone 20 #19 June 7, 2002 1700 for training (failed 2 levels), 3500 on first rig, 240 on jumps till the A. (Never got the A, went right to the C... but thats another story)In the year and a half since then..... $6000 on jumps, $1300 on camera, $350 on helment, $550 on jumpsuits,$ 800 at least in travel costs, 1300 frequent flier miles,$ 450 in hosptial costs (love insurance, paid $150 total for it), 20000 miles on the car, and figure another $300 for misc money = ~$10000 in 20 months. PhillyKev 0 #24 June 7, 2002 The best part is after you're done buying all your equipment, it gets much cheaper! That's what I though when I started. Noone told me that you're NEVER done buying your equipment. Sure, I have my rig, my jumpsuit, my helmet, my goggles, my altimeter. Now I need a jumptrack, a better helmet than my protek, a ff suit, then probably a camera, then video editing equipment, then ....cielos azules y cerveza fría-Kevin
