Truly Scrumptious Goes Sour

So there I was waiting near the tram with my friend Georgie who has on this tee shirt that says:"Truly Scrumptious" so I started in to singing the song, she laughs and joins me. Omar asks me to start from the begining and sing it all the way through, I told him sure but it would cost him. He pulls out $25
I take it and begin to serenade him , holding his hand with all the folks on the tram laughing their asses off. ..I return his $25 and we set off for the plane.
Georgie and I begin singing the song on the way to tude laughing along the way........An 8 way pus camera, 1 3-way FF 2-2wayFF 4 FF sticks so I decide to exit last.
We get a go around with Johnny long spot, Georgie exiting first. I see that the spot is a bit long and decide to open higher than I normally do. I head for the DZ and see.......ohhh a cutaway........OMG OMFG I see Georgie deploy her reserve while on her back and create a step through.......OMFG!! I see that her foot is caught in the riser and there are of course line twists from the step through. She begins to go horizontal.........OMFG I am hanging out watching her...... praying........Somehow she manages to get her foot untangled from the risers.phew ok but there is the walk through...line twists..........she flares slightly to test it but hell it's all she 's got.........looks really soft! I'm hanging....praying, ok it;s flyable..kinda..........man that landing is gonna hurt! I see her hit the ground.......waiting for her to get up.......AND SHE DOES! Next thing I see is the van out to retreive her.
I head for the landing area.really short, just miss a tree and pound in on my already comprimised calcaneus. So now I am out for a few days................but hell.........that is nothing!
I went to manifest, none of the other jumpers knew that there was a reserve ride and I was not the last one down. Folks need to be aware that's for sure. At anyrate, Georgie came into the hangar heading straight for me, she embraced me, her entire body shaking and thanked me for looking out for her. There is now a bond there that will never be broken....
Georgie is an accomplished flyer with 1500 jumps to her credit, she flies camera for the DZ and this her first reserve ride. Her main, is a stiletto and had unrecoverable line twists.
In retrospect.........I should have kept the 25 bucks!!!

Loved the book, hated the movie (well, I did like "Big Bamboo", but that was about it), kinda curious about the stage musical.
Glad to hear everything came out alright Georgie.

We all have to look out for each other, even though we were doing solos, my awareness may have saved her life should it have come to that. It's a good lesson for everyone, if they are open to the learning.

Good story! Thanks for sharing. Glad your friend is ok. My friend, Tracy, had a severe line twist malfunction a couple of weeks back ... the twists were pushing down on her neck... couldn't cutaway, so she pulled silver, and fortunately her reserve cleared her main. Then she cutawaythe main, and managed to get straightened away just in time to land -- crashing into a fence. She's bruised up, and has soft tissue damage to the knee, but she's jumping again! Way to go, Tracy!!!

Just like scuba (another sport I enjoy, just not nearly as much)....the buddy system works. I count myself fortunate to be called someone's friend, those friendships are gifts and bring a great amount of joy.
