Jasmin 0 #5 June 17, 2002 The media is rarely our friend, they love the sensationalism and stereotype of skydiving too much....As for five deaths in 13 years, we were very very lucky and had none at our DZ in 15 years....followed by 2 in one day (double mal [reserve and main] & a suicide) followed a few months later by a cypress save. For those who're so inconsiderate and selfish to as to insult all of us by committing suicide jumping, damn you!!! Y'anyways, accidents happen, but we risk that every time we jump, and as the famous quote says: "Everything is sweetened by risk."To the calgary jumpers, best wishes.Blue skies forever..... Remster 30 #6 June 17, 2002 Quotefor a busy dz...remember, this is Canada, CESSNA only, and not 4 of them, and not full jumping days 7 days a week. It may have change in the last couple of years, but when I lived in Alberta, that DZ is mostly a 1st jump / student DZ.Blue skies....RemsterMuff

Iflyme 0 #9 June 17, 2002 QuoteFive deaths in thirteen years is "notorious"? imho, that's pretty normal for a busy dz...Well I've never been there myself, but I have talked with a few people who have... including a jumper who was injured during her first skydive -- when she was wearing a video camera! After some of the stories I've heard, it's unlikely I'll jump at that dz if I'm ever in Calgary. Have you ever been there Lisa, of talked to anyone who jumps there? PhillyKev 0 #10 June 17, 2002 It's very disturbing that of those 5 fatalities, 3 of them were first time jumpers. Kind of makes me wonder about their FJC...Blues to the departed...cielos azules y cerveza fría-Kevin
gale 0 #11 June 17, 2002 Well, I have no first hand knowledge of this dz but I've been told the following:This particular dz is not affiliated with the CSPA, and this could account for some differences. Also, from what people tell me this place is nortorious. When you look at the fatalities in all of Canada the staticstical likelyhood of theirs occuring in one little dz seems pretty unlikely. Like I said, I have no first hand knowledge of the situation but around here it's got a pretty bad reputation. This is not to say that they were to blame here. I really wouldn't know. My condolences are sent to everyone effected.GaleIsn't life the strangest thing you've ever seen?
