freebird 0 #1 June 20, 2002 I just picked up my complete rig. As soon as I got home I turned on the cypress ( to make sure it worked) I know you turn it off the same way you turn it on. But every time I try to turn it off the light will not come on....or it comes on...... I start with the four presses and still......I can not get it off....I had no trouble getting it on it is still on 0." ah geez" "The two of you's dummy up" !Archie Bunker
Dumpster 0 #2 June 20, 2002 I wouldn't sweat it- It'll turn itself off in 14 hours- I don't think I've ever turned mine off-

jtval 0 #4 June 20, 2002 mine does the same thing. I let it turn itself off! so far, I haven'top's checked it yet (thank god) but it turns off automatically after 14 or 16 hours. I never watched it, usually around 12 hours i get bored and leave it!.if I was told the correct info, it actually wastes more bateries to shut it down then it does to lett it stay on and shut it self down(dont know why but the dude who told me had 14,000 jumps and has benn skydiving (ACTIVELY) for 22 years! smcc13 0 #5 June 20, 2002 you'll have to wait 20 min or so....then you'll be able to turn it off. they're all made that way.

I was told the same thing by a master rigger, BUT if you read the technical specifications at the back of the CYPRES manual it is apparent that this claim is simply not true.ps mine originally was very hard to turn off too, but it has got easier as time has passed. Hooknswoop 19 #7 June 20, 2002 "you'll have to wait 20 min or so....then you'll be able to turn it off. they're all made that way."You can turn a cypres on then immediately (after it counts down) turn it back off. What works for me is pressing it repidly 3 times and hitting it when the light comes on like normal.Hook
skybytch 273 #8 June 20, 2002 Quoteit has got easier as time has passedYup. It takes a few tries to get the timing down on the turning off sequence but once you've got it, it's easy.pull & flare, lisa"Try not. Do or do not. ltdiver 3 #11 June 20, 2002 However, (and this comes from personal experience) if you leave it on, then drive home from the DZ with it on, it will wear out the battery -much- faster than if you turn it off before leaving.Seems that if the Cypres senses a 50 foot elevation change, it switches from 'stand-by' to 'full activation' and the battery is draned at a higher rate.see: Cypres BatteriesPersonal expereince gained from when my Cypres battery went 'dead' (noticed by the number cycling down to '8998') within the first year and way before the 500 jumps. My drive home is 45 minutes and an elevation change from the DZ of 1,500 feet.Just FYI,ltdiver____________________________________________LightDiverCam

Albatross 0 #13 June 20, 2002 I had the same problem. I found that I had to be faster to push the button when I was turning it off than on. Try to press as sson as the light flashes and it might work for you.God bless us and God Bless AmericaAlbatross
TomAiello 26 #14 June 20, 2002 You probably ought to learn to turn it off manually without waiting the 14 hours, if only for safety reasons.I had to turn mine off in the plane one time, after my reserve pin got dislodged, and I had to ride the plane down. Just before diving, the pilot (who had, believe it or not 25,000 skydives at the time) turns to me and says "got a cypress? Turn it off--we're going down fast!"I don't know if his descent rate really would have fired it or not, but I'd rather not find out the hard way.--Tom Aiellotbaiello@mac.com
AndyMan 7 #15 June 20, 2002 Quoteyou'll have to wait 20 min or so....This is not true. The Cypres is just a bit more finicky about the timing of the button presses when you're turning it off. If you keep trying, you'll figure it out. Make sure you hit the button when the light is still on.This was by design, Airtec says that they did this to discourage people from turning it off, because it would suck if you've forgotten that you turned it off, then needed it._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
