rhino 0 #1 June 19, 2002 A co-worker of mine went in for Laser Eye Surgery a month ago..To make a long story short.. It is a procedure that isn't suppose to hurt so if you go in and feel any pain make them stop immediately!!My "co-worker" was lying in the table as they begun to fire the laser into his eye. He told them he felt tons of pain and reached for the apparatus that fires the laser to take it away from his eye. They told him "no it isn't suppose to hurt" bringing 5 people into the office to hold his hands and legs down as he screamed. They continued to fire the laser that cut completely through his iris, cornea, lens, eye, everything.. He is now blind in that eye and in a major law suit against the company that did this fubar. They didn't calibrate the laser and it cut completely through his eye. They will have to put mechanical parts in his eye just so he can have partial vision from it again..I am just passing this along.. I know a few people that have or are considering this procedure.. A good question to ask would be "have you calibrated the lasers?"Needless to say he is going to be rich as hell but that doesn't replace his eye.. Just an FYI,Rhino Blue Skies ..... Blue Skies ..... Muenkel 0 #2 June 19, 2002 Wow! That is unbelievable. It really is scary that these things can happen during "routine" procedures.I am sure he rather have his sight than the money. I know I would.I'll be saying a prayer for him."JANE, HOW DO YOU STOP THIS CRAZY THING?"Chris

rhino 0 #6 June 19, 2002 I am blessed with perfect eye sight.. I just wanted to pass this along for informational purposes.. I don't believe he will ever have to work again.. All he has to do is ask for a jury trial and describe being pinned down while he screamed..It sucks.. I hope he gets his eye sight back somehow.. That was his better eye too..Rhino Blue Skies ..... airborne31582 0 #14 June 19, 2002 I don't think this should keep anyone from getting this surgey, I recieved LASIK from a doctor in El Paso, Texas about 2 years ago. I went from my vision being 20/300 to 20/15. The surgery has been a godsend for me, and I don't think anyone should put it off because of one idiot doctor Chris Ramirez New Mexico State University
jfields 0 #15 June 19, 2002 QuoteI don't think anyone should put it off because of one idiot doctor The problem is that it isn't just one idiot doctor. Many doctor's see it as a cash cow and work to get the most procedures done in a day. Depending on what sources you believe, the rate of complications is somewhere between 2% and 5%. Either way, too high for me to risk my vision. I'm glad it worked for you, but I'll stick to my glass and contacts for now.Justin

lummy 4 #20 June 19, 2002 and the probability of getting pregnant while using birth control pills is about 3% Or better yet, the chance of getting pregnant while using a Condom is about 10%, I'm ALL for stopping use of those..... the INTERNET comes in any color you'd like
Meathorse 0 #21 June 19, 2002 QuoteThey told him "no it isn't suppose to hurt" bringing 5 people into the office to hold his hands and legs down as he screamed. Jesus tits! If he's screaming and it takes 5 people to hold him down ain't that a minor hint that there's a lil bit of pain? If "it isn't supposed to hurt" but it is hurting then I'd say that's a purdy good sign that something ain't right. And I always thought doctors were some of the smartest people in the world.I've got this image stuck in my head now.... That part in Total Recall where the doctors are trying to keep Arnold bolted in the chair. Ah've gaht to ghet to Mahrs!

quade 4 #23 June 19, 2002 I think if I was going to do it, I'd go to Dr. Joel Shugar. At least you'd know you'd get a guy that's done quite a few of them AND is a skydiver to boot.quadehttp://futurecam.com
MarkM 0 #24 June 19, 2002 Yeah, I use glasses for reading and watching TV, things are just a tad out of focus without them and I won't do laser surgery even though I'd really like to lose the glasses. The slight risk isn't worth the small gain. Now if my vision without glasses was worthless, I'd do it.Maybe in several years I'll do it anyway. I figure they have gotten the complications worked out by then or developed a better method for correcting vision.
