cessna and Whitehouse airspace

Recommended Posts

I'm sure everyone has heard (in the US anyway) about the cessna cruising through VERY restricted airspace. Well, it turns out that plane was purchased by a guy I know and it was headed for Raeford to get the work done to convert it to a jump plane. The DZO is getting a ton of free publicity over this. Of course the 2 guys flying the plane aren't fairing so well right now. How weird is that.

Um..see.....back in the day when I was a young pilot we didn't HAVE GPS. We used Sectionals (which are still required to be on board for all fights) and even if we diverted we still had to know where we were and where we wanted to go. It's a required skill for the Private Pilot license. Hmmmm.
Course...back in the day.....we had to fly uphill, both ways, in the snow, and do Spilt Ss for our license. ;)

It's true....no matter how many hours you have or how many years experience we can ALL get led down the road to some unfortunate circumstances. Every pilot out there has gotten lost. Most of us get away with it rather than ending up circling over the White House.

A friend of mine got lost, and was literally driving 100 mph everywhere hoping to get pulled over so he could ask directions (it was really late at night and seemed like a good idea).... I guess the white house would be a good landmark and a couple of f-16's guiding you would be a similar thing.... :)

I remember my Dad getting "Called on the carpet" once. Something about being way off the outer marker going into Frankfurt. I know when he retired he had somewhere near 40,000 hours. So yeah...it can happen to anyone. :)"Here I come to save the BOOBIES!"

True, but they are probably going a lot faster than a Cessna.

Not always.....the last time one made the news it was an Army guy flying an OH-58. (Small scout helicopter) That can fly much slower than a Cessna....:D He strayed across the DMZ and was promptly shot down and captured. What a genious....

Right....it was an "accident".

I totally believe it was an accident. Army guys are professionals at getting lost. To this day their favorite saying in the field is "Air Force!!! Where are we?" :D I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that.

Military Branch bashing?

I wish it was just bashing. Army guys really are known for getting lost. How do you think all the "friendly fire" happens. :( It's pretty hard to keep track of someone when THEY don't know where they are...

Sometimes, they couldn't even drop us on the right DZ.

Yeah...those airlift pilots.....what a bunch of knuckle heads. You know where they get airlift pilots right? They are the "bottom" of the class.....:D I have refused to let anyone out of an aircraft before. The pilot ask if I couldn't see the DZ. I said ....."No I can see the DZ just fine. It's about 2 miles west of us"......:D 180 off the run in heading can get pretty stupid too.....

You guys are assuming the pilots could see the ground! Guess you didnt think about the thick cloud layer and lots of thunderstorms. Check the weather for that day. I think there may be a lot you don't know about the circumstances, and wouldn't you appreciate it if someone had given you the benefit of the doubt when you were in question over something?

in either event, "flight control tower" where were they? asleep at the switch AGAIN? :D they're lucky an f-16 didn't shoot them down after the incident of 09/11/2001, i wouldn't have felt sorry for them. but i still think the control tower should have been tracking them, especially in that airspace. :$
