weid14 0 #1 June 21, 2002 I'm sure everyone has heard (in the US anyway) about the cessna cruising through VERY restricted airspace. Well, it turns out that plane was purchased by a guy I know and it was headed for Raeford to get the work done to convert it to a jump plane. The DZO is getting a ton of free publicity over this. Of course the 2 guys flying the plane aren't fairing so well right now. How weird is that.

diverdriver 7 #3 June 21, 2002 No ever said that jump pilots were the most intelligent cross country pilots.A simple Garmin III Pilot would alert you to Restricted Airspace. Heck, the required Sectional map could do that too.Chris
freeflir29 0 #4 June 21, 2002 QuoteHeck, the required Sectional map could do that too.Only if you KNOW where you are....LOL Me thinks they needed the Garmin. The guy on CNN said they SHOULD have been about 40 miles to the west......"Here I come to save the BOOBIES!"
diverdriver 7 #5 June 21, 2002 Um..see.....back in the day when I was a young pilot we didn't HAVE GPS. We used Sectionals (which are still required to be on board for all fights) and even if we diverted we still had to know where we were and where we wanted to go. It's a required skill for the Private Pilot license. Hmmmm.Course...back in the day.....we had to fly uphill, both ways, in the snow, and do Spilt Ss for our license. diverdriver 7 #7 June 21, 2002 It's true....no matter how many hours you have or how many years experience we can ALL get led down the road to some unfortunate circumstances. Every pilot out there has gotten lost. Most of us get away with it rather than ending up circling over the White House.Chris
weid14 0 #8 June 21, 2002 A friend of mine got lost, and was literally driving 100 mph everywhere hoping to get pulled over so he could ask directions (it was really late at night and seemed like a good idea).... I guess the white house would be a good landmark and a couple of f-16's guiding you would be a similar thing....
