Jessica 0 #1 July 5, 2002 I wonder when this kind of thing is going to start affecting us. Hmm. Link doesn't work. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A29439-2002Jul5.htmlSkydiving is for cool people only
fasterfaller 0 #2 July 5, 2002 It took them a long time to figure that one out . They should also be looking into who is purchasing aircraft these days also . For about a million $$ you can buy a high hour but airworthy 737 and that is within the reach of more than one terrorist organization . Now that really scares me ! pilotdave 0 #3 July 5, 2002 May very well affect skydiving in the future. There are proposals now to require high fences around every airport. I fly (flew?) out of one of the 3 closest general aviation airports to washington national airport. They had to implement a number of new security procedures to reopen, including things like requiring prop locks on all planes when not in use (basically a chain that goes around the prop, causing it to be out of balance if the engine was started. You'd shake the engine off it's mount before getting in the air if you tried to fly with it on). Thats not such a big deal, but imagine a fence around your DZ. Barbed wire and parachutes probably don't get along too well. How much would (will?) that suck. Lets just hope the people that make the rules are smart with their decisions. pilotdave 0 #5 July 5, 2002 Quote What about bolt cutters ? Well, it's made of very hard metal and pretty thick. I'm sure given enough time it could be cut, but I guess the idea is to deter theft. They weren't designed to deter terrorism though, so who knows how effective they actually are. Dave
fasterfaller 0 #6 July 6, 2002 If they want a plane they will get one . I guess they will post guards to prevent fence crashers as well . We need to put an end to training people that we know nothing about . You should not be able to obtain heavy jet training unless you have proof of needing it for a job or a plane you are buying .
