skymama 37 #1 July 8, 2002 My brother sent me an e-mail this morning of his wife's resume. Weird, I thought, she likes her job. Then, I saw that there was an attachment with an .exe extension. Uh oh, this happened to me before. He has one of those worm viruses that attaches itself to everyone in your address book, right? So, I called him and told him to alert everyone not to open it, and he asked me what he should do now on his computer. I have no idea, I thought I was doing good just telling him he had a problem! But, I know you all will know exactly what to do. Isn't there something he needs to download now, so he can erase it?She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

AggieDave 6 #4 July 8, 2002 Symantec lists some common things about viruses and worms on their site, common attatchment names, e-mail headings, etc for that sort of thing. He should be able to locate what he has and take care of it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
wildblue 7 #5 July 8, 2002 eek! no anti-virus software installed? Probably it's klez - it's been really popular lately, and if there were 2 attachments (a word document and the exe file) that sounds about right. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.h@mm.html Are you *sure* it came from him though? Even though it says it's "from" him, it might not have been. Have him search his hard drive for "wink" and if he has a file "wink.exe it is him, and it is klezit's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
