GrumpySmurf 0 #1 July 12, 2002 So here I go ahead and order a Sony PC101 MiniDV camcorder - brand spanking new from Sony, so new even Amazon says, "In stock soon. Order now to get in line. First come, first served." - even Sony had them on backorder. So finally manage to snag one directly from them and have them ship it on Wednesday for 2 day delivery - I confirmed the address and got the tracking number. Even arranged for the g/f to be in the apartment all day today to sign for it. This afternoon the tracking report said 'Unable to Deliver' - I go WTF?! The woman is sitting there waiting for it. So I drop by the apartment to see if a InfoNotice was left - nope. I call UPS to ask where my package went - get this - 'We tried to deliver to 8540, but our records show it should go to 8521' I honestly go, 'No shit Sherlock, 8521 is my address!" - the UPS rep actually had the nerve to try to blame Sony for the mix up - yet Sony's records say 8521, as did UPS's records. You may pay extra for FedEx - but I have yet to see them screw up and not willingly take the blame.

aeromobile 0 #4 July 12, 2002 I had a package shipped to a UPS location "Hold for Pickup" and they couldn't get that right. I went to the station three times after they said my package was there. The forth time they called I didn't bother going back. They shipped the package back the the shipper. What gets me is they don't care. I even had a station manager call me to let me know he couldn't help me.
freeflir29 0 #5 July 12, 2002 QuoteI even had a station manager call me to let me know he couldn't help me. I laughed pretty hard the other day. Our switch data bases were down so basically I can't do any work. I was on the phone with someone and after I told them I wasn't able to help them I asked "Is there anything else I can NOT do for you?"

GrumpySmurf 0 #8 July 12, 2002 Looked at the specs for the camera and thought the 101 was better suited to what I wanted - especially the whole Bluetooth thing (which appearantly was named after a 10th century Nordic king of some sort) - after seeing CNN.com's scathing review of the protocol, didn't see much point in paying more for something that I had no real use for *shrug* But aye, at least Andy got his toy in time for the weekend Then again, my g/f probably would have hidden it from me anyways. AndyMan 7 #9 July 12, 2002 QuoteBut aye, at least Andy got his toy in time for the weekend Yup, and www.dbuys.com has the best prices with still good service. I paid an extra $50 for next day shipping. I ordered it at 4:30pm eastern, and it was on my doorstep by 9:30am central. Now lets see how quickly I get the sidemount bracket for my Velocity. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Craig 0 #10 July 12, 2002 Well, I guess I am lucky I haven't had any problems with UPS...For the past two days I have been tracking my demo canopy through FedEx. I knew that they would not leave it at my house since it requires a signature, an nobody would be there but I planned on going to the airport's FedEx hub to pick it up this evening since they said it would be back there between 5-6PM. (They claimed they had to at least make one delivery attempt when I called them to tell them to just hold it there). Okay, no biggie. I run the tracking number before I come home from work today to see if they attempted and it said "Package left at address other than recipient" and gave a name of the person who signed for it...thinking "Who the F% is that? I don't know them" Left work cussing and hoping they left something on my door telling me WHERE it was dropped. Sure enough it was left at a neighbors house. Needless to say I was a bit worried, FedEx did this to me one other time and after calling them trying to find where my package was dropped they just had a name and no address and said they would have to see if the driver knew where it was left at, the package showed up 3 days later on my step....never did find out who had it. It was also not even close to what a canopy is worth!
skybytch 273 #11 July 13, 2002 At work we used to ship the majority of our packages with UPS, but when FedEx starting doing ground service (and offered us rates that beat the snot out of what UPS was charging) we switched. We'll still ship UPS, but the customer has to really want it that way. That said, FedEx screws up on a pretty regular basis too. What I like about them compared to UPS is they take responsibility for the screw up and usually will do everything they can to get the package to the customer - and on air shipments (overnight, 2 day and 3 day) if the package doesn't arrive on time they are excellent (and fast) about refunding the shipping cost. Generally their website tracking service is kept very up to date, and once the package has been delivered you can get the date and time it was delivered and who signed for it right off the website - usually within an hour or so of it being delivered! One thing I've found that seems to helps get your new toys delivered to you on time and to the right address is to have it shipped to your work instead of your home address. Up until the last phone message from UPS - they've been trying to place the blame on either Sony or myself - they finally admitted the driver didn't even look at the shipping label for more than 1/2 a second and took the package to the wrong place - now as to getting the shipping costs refunded, this should be entertaining.
