ramon 0 #26 July 16, 2002 In the days after 9/11 one private aircraft was allowed to fly across the US while airspace was still closed. Know who was in it? Bin Laden family members. Bush gave permission to evacuate them out of the country for their own safety (he had a few millionaire family members in US). Bush did.......not the FBI or NSA. Gee when a crime is committed here...like a murder....the cops usually want to at least talk to the family members...ask like .."do you know where he is..etc" ramon"Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. freeflir29 0 #28 July 16, 2002 Uuumm...Hmmm..maybe some of you haven't been paying attention. The economic boom of the 90's was caused by a decent economy. Then really inflated by accounting nig-noggery. Corporations didn't want to be left behind so they did whatever they could to push up the stock prices. It was an artificially inflated economy that is now correcting itself. I don't think Clinton or Bush had anything to do with the ups or downs. If you want to blame someone. Blame the big corporations boards. Period...

billvon 3,090 #33 July 16, 2002 >ok, lets say this is true. then by what merits do we judge a > president's performance? By how he does his job, his job being defined as: -Leading our armed forces -Making treaties with other countries -Choosing the supreme court justices -Choosing good cabinet officers to deal with specific issues (agriculture, defense, foreign affairs etc.) -Using the power of the executive order to meet emergencies -Using his perceived position as leader of the US to inspire confidence and to promote harmony within the US -Using that same position to help promulgate peace throughout the world At least that's how I define his job. >let's say this is true. then who do we give the credit for the good > economy during the clinton administration? alan greenspan? Well, he's a lot closer than the president was. The real answer is, of course, the companies and consumers that created the good economy. Without those two forces nothing anyone can do will help the economy; if those two forces are working well together, it's hard to stop a good economy. >let's say this is true. who is in control then? the citizens of the u.s.a.? Control of what? The economy? Greenspan is the closest we have to someone who is in charge, but it is the companies and consumers that actually make a good economy. >we've just started to scrape the "tip of the iceberg" with all of the > economic scandals that our current administration has been involved > in, or with. the insuing investigation into halliburton will yield quite a > few unsavory results i'm afraid. I think you're right, but I think this will certainly take second billing to the 'war on terror.' Wartime presidents tend to do well in opinion polls and at the voting booth, and we seem to be getting ready for another one. >and what about making "deals" with traitors? that don't hold water > with me, current administration, or previous administration....that's > B.S. i'm sorry. Yep. 17 years for treason. I worry that this will set the tone for the rest of the 9/11 trials.

quade 4 #36 July 16, 2002 I find this entire thread funny as hell. A couple of months ago I was making comments about GWB and got a lot of flack for it. Now just a couple of months later it turns out I was right all along and now people think GWB really is incompetant (because the issues are affecting people personally this time). In my opinion, this is one of the greatest wrongs with this country, people put total faith in a party or system and as long as they don't personally get screwed they think everything is just peachy. I wish people would start reading the newspapers again and see how these things line up before things get out of hand. Instead, the vast majority of the voters out there have no idea whatsoever of what's going on -- or even what the government is supposed to do.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #38 July 16, 2002 Hey, I wasn't exactly a Clinton fan either. I actually sort of liked President Bush, the elder. At least he was a well educated man, knew a bit about what the government should do and world politics. Unfortunately, he just didn't know enough about U.S. politics. How do you go from winning a war, being the most popular President since Kennedy and having something like a 90% approval rating to losing to Bill Clinton? Amazing.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

SkyDolphin 0 #40 July 16, 2002 If we were all equipped with some kind Psycic ability, we wouldn't even need elections. We would just know who would do the best job as President and appoint that person because it would be a unanimous decision. But we don't. All we can really do is vote for the person that we feel in our own opinion will do the best job and hope for the best. Not that I'm a huge fan of Bush or anything, but we have no real guarantee that Gore or anyone else would be doing a better job. They are, after all only human too. All we can really expect is that the person that was elected whether we voted for them or not is going to make the decisions that he/she feel are the right ones and hope that they work out. We can all sit back and criticize but if Gore were President right now. Things really wouldn't be that much different. People would just be criticizing him for decisions he made. It would be different people but the effect would be the same. After all, it's the American way. Just my .02. Rhonda

Well...they don't call him "Slick Willie" for nothin. The man knows how to work people. The first time I ever saw him on TV I knew he was a lying sack of shit. I grew up in the south and I'm well aware that know one with an education like his speaks like a dumb redneck unless it's on purpose. He plays that character well and people were stupid enough to buy it. At the time, I didn't believe "Americans" were that dumb. I really did think that everyone else would see through that persona. Wow, was I wrong. Clinton has a serious elitist philosophy. I think he looks on "The American People" as stupid peasants. I'm really starting to believe he is right....
