Does "rush" service mean six weeks to you?

Recommended Posts

I ordered a camera suit from Tony 5 weeks and two days ago. I paid for the "rush" service which was supposed to be 2-4 weeks. I called last monday to Para-gear and they told me that "rush" now means 4-6 weeks.

What to do?

I'm pissed that they changed the conditions of our deal, but since they haven't billed my credit card, I really can't hold them to their word, because until they take my money, it's not really a contract. Lisa?

If it's longer than six weeks I think I'm willing to fight over paying the rush charge. What I'm really upset about is that I ordered this thing with plenty of time to spare because I've got my first gig filming a 4 way team tomorrow, and I'll be doing it in my freefly suit. Not the first impression I wanted to make. Grrr.

Anyone you can bum a suit from? Is there an old camera suit just laying around the DZ you can use in the mean time?

As for the rush service, that sucks dude. I'd atleast call up Tony Suits and talk to them instead of Para-Gear and see whats going on. Also, tell them your situation and how you feel slighted, I'm sure they'll do something to make sure you get your suit in a timely manner and try to make sure you walk away from this with a positive experience.

Well, not to rub salt in the wounds or anything but...

I just got my RW suit from Tads and it only took a little over two weeks, and that's without rush service! And that's coming from Australia!!! Nope, I don't work for them or anything, I just thought I'd give a good gear manufacturer a plug. :)

"Rush" service generally means the quoted time from the date they get the order until the date it ships out to you. Whatever time it took for the dealer to get the order to them, and whatever time it takes for the item to ship from the manufacturer to the dealer then to you is not included in the "rush" delivery time that the manufacturer quotes.

It is the busy time of year for equipment manufacturers. Consider also that they may have quite a few other "rush" orders to get out in addition to yours. Generally manufacturers are good about not charging a rush fee if they don't/can't meet the delivery time, but remember, quoted delivery times are only estimates.

If you need something for a particular date it's best to order it way early - if a manufacturer is quoting 6 weeks, order it at least 8 weeks ahead of time. Shit happens. If it happens to your order, it's nice to know that you've got a couple of weeks leeway...

In fairness, you should have been advised how long it would take. Tony knows how busy he is and how long it will take to make your suit when you order it. There's no reason he can't keep to what you were promised.
