SBS 0 #26 July 19, 2002 Richard, There is a big difference between someone that drives fast down the road and one who rapes and kills children. We aren't even talking about a child molester here, we are talking about a serial killer that is not a normal, rational person. Yes, I agree that there need to be harsher laws against molesting children, but no law is going to stop people like this from doing what they do. A guy who wants to touch his nephew's areas would probably be detered from doing so if the punishment was something like what has been described in this thread. I seriously doubt that this guy, at any time while he raped and killed that child, was thinking, "Oh, I hope I don't get in too much trouble for this." -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... rgoper 0 #27 July 19, 2002 oh i totally agree. but as i said in my post, i was just potraying a hypothetical crime. but i do believe we have made life on these types of criminals too easy. 500 years ago they were burning witches at the stake up state new york, mass. etc...point being we have let penalities lax to the point where people aren't even thinking twice about murdering each other because you won't "do much time for the crime" at the end of the day we have to as a society make the penalty for crimes harsh enough to create a firm deterrant.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
SBS 0 #28 July 19, 2002 I agree. I believe laws and education will deter rational people from committing crimes. These types of crimes, though, are not perpetrated by rational people, though, so the question remains, how can we help to stop sick shit like this from happening? Unfortunately, I don't think we can. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
