Why Hotels suck...

Recommended Posts

well ill try to make this short, but here goes:
Some guys from arizona were supposed to be coming up today, a 6 man team and anyway they turned out to be full of shit, my friend set that up with them guess he knew them through the web site he runs, So now we dont have a place to stay friday night and saturday night.....so the two 17 year olds decide to call around and see what we can manage, Call the ramada tell them whats goin on, give them the sob story and ask if its possible to fax a copy of the waiver with a signature and a witness of someone who is over 21, hell maybe even get it notorized. So the nice lady on the phone says she talked to her manager it wont be a problem....I tell her let me call her back and set something up i need to confirm this with my friend and his mom. I call back and remind her who i am and ask her for the fax number, and she tells me i cant do that...after she just told me i could. I got on the phone with the manager and was real calm explained the situation thinking maybe there is a nice person in the world....going round and round she finally says "your wasting my time" and i lost it and told her she can goto hell and a bunch of unneccasary profanitys... Bottom line is we got hosed tommy...we got hosed......oh davey........
now i get to drive 1 1/2 hours to the feild and worry about keeping my paint cool and all that fun stuff, the drive doesnt bother me its the fact that people are just heartless.....and to think i missed the freefly fest for this....damnit damnit damnit...well guys, gals...and clay thanks for readin and hopefully youll be able to say somethin to boost my spirits and my newly aquired green hair.
:)Dan

I would have called her and tried to help you (I am in the industry) but it sounds like you burned your bridge with her. That is not a nice thing to do. Lesson learned. Guess you are going to have to buy a tent!:P

Also in the industry here. If that was a direct quote from the manager, then you were talking to someone who is not the most professional. Your response to the manager was not very professional either.

Too many hotels and their workers have had their jobs made completely miserable by college age or teenagers staying in a hotel (actually alot of "adults" would have to be included here). I know, you're different. The bottom line is, most will stay up most of the night, party their asses off and piss the other guests off. Guess who hears from the other guests...the front desk staff and the manager. For a lot of hotels, it just is not worth it.

You know i usually have a pretty good nose for beerable offenses. If I am not mistaking it appears that Nathan and Muenkel have agreed with each other. Beer

Yelling will get you no where. :PSorry that you felt no love from the Ramada. Being young and all that can be frustrating. You will not have to deal with it forever.:|

I had the same prob back in high school with a hotel, the end result was a little better.[:/]
I was going to my formal that night and was flying out to NZ the next day. They gave me such a hard time trying to book because I wasn't 18 despite the fact that I had a credit card had asked them o organise a VERY early airport shuttle and was prepared to pay with CASH! :S
Y'anyways I finally booked it through the airlines with my frequent flyer miles and had a nice chat with the manager as we'd (and I'd) stayed there so many times before as well as my uncle and his clients. >:(
I got back to the hotel room pretty early and couldn't sleep cause of the drunk ADULTS across (and lying IN) the hall; called reception, no change. Went down and cut sick at the manager for giving me a hard time for supposedly wanting to do exactly what was happening across the hall.>:(
Hotles can be good but the staff can be Assholes too.

I am sure I can think of some more reasons...

- Hotels are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Sometimes you have to work long hours, holidays or weekends.:(

- You are dealing with the general public and when they annoy you you can not tell them they are scratching a sleeping lions balls with a hot fork because you will get in trouble.:P

- You have to manage people of all nationalities, education, experience and although none of this matters it can be difficult being a chameleon and having to adapt to their specific cultures, etc.[:/]

- Running restaurants is a pain in the ass at best.B|

Good Things?

- You can travel a lot for not a lot of money.

- You get to meet a lot of cool people.

- You have a pool and a bar at work! BOOBIES!B|

Ouch. I got caught in a blizzard returning from a sking trip when I was 16 once. Couldn't get a hotel room to save our lives. Only cost us $10 to get some guy to get us beer. Got drunk and slept in the van. All's well that ends well.

I admit to being at least partly to blame for your lodging difficulties. Doesnt matter where me and my idiot friends stay, we make extra work for the cleaning staff. Doesn't matter how nice the hotel either. I can remember the Intercontinental (5 star) in Buenos Aires where I mistook the ice bucket for the toilet in a drunken stupor or hiding beer cans between the matresses or peeing in the tub with the stopper in or never flushing or leaving psychotic notes in the Gideon Bible or calling room service and asking for "special service" or pulling the elevator emergency stop button "Im banned for life from the MGM Grand for that one" or sharing a room with Ed White or...well, I could go on forever but you can exact revenge in a few shot years and justify it by rationalizing that you are providing job security for the maintenance/cleaning staff.

Do I need therapy?

I agree with this completely. The adults can be much worse than any teenager. However, if we ban them, I guess we would be out of business.

The most common phrase I think I have heard from a guest is "This is unacceptable!" Unacceptable? You just want to say, "No...disease, famine, murder and war are unacceptable. Columbine was unacceptable. I would not put the fact that your fucking hair dryer broke, under the category of unacceptable. Perhaps inconvenient is a better word. And no, I will not comp your entire stay because the hair dryer broke and it ruined your entire vacation. Now get the fuck out of here bitch!!!" Of course being the professional I am, I would never say this...but I certainly may think it!

And yes Sebazz, I guess I owe beer, because I do agree with the points Nathan made on this topic.
