lummy 4 #1 July 20, 2002 And Declares, "I AM GEEK" Here me post....... Just set up my wireless gateway and I'm outside with the laptop seeing what the range on this puppy is :) Looks like I'm not going to make it to the pool tho :( Will have to get a wireless PDA so I can check my e-mail from there MUHAHAHAHA....I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. skymut 0 #2 July 20, 2002 Well, I better get one of those aluminum foil hats, cause wireless rules... I have one of those puppies (gateway/ap) too, and between that and my 500k cable high speed connection, I sit on the couch, surf, post, watch spongebob, eat dinner etc. What A/P do you have? Did you get a model that will be able to bump up in mbps when it's approved? At work, we use avaya, and they will be able to go up to 55 mbps in the future. We are gonna experiment with having one of our campuses completely wireless. Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. lummy 4 #4 July 20, 2002 Watch Lummy get ready to mop the floor. Hehehe... Already wired the house into my DSL line. Now I can wander around and be a post ho too :) Oh wait, I already am one.... It's an Orinoco Residential gateway and card for the laptop plugging into a switched 100mbit wired network. One of these days I'll write an app to remotely control my MP3 queue so I can change and add a playlist. Probably a web interface Any database scripting / web developer interested in a little project? I've got a few JT's lieing around :) Hehehe..I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Cornholio 0 #5 July 20, 2002 Well it's about time.... I've been wireless for the last 9 months. All day long (since I'm jobless) I sit here in my laZyboy surfing the net, watching Satellite TV, and send out resumes in between movies and web sites. We (roomate and I) actually have two APs - one SMC AP, and a Netgear Wireless Router connected to a 100Mb network as well. Here's our current network hardware.... (see attached pic) Let's see from left to right and top to bottom we have a SB3100 cable modem, SNAP File Server, SMC AP, BayStack 350 switch, SMC ABR router, Cisco DSL router (currently not used) , Omni 8 station KVM swtich, couple of DVD drives, Internet PC (acting as our backup router), PC2, PC3 - Win2K Adv Server, PC4 Dell Poweredge Linux Server... AND that's just one wall!! Netgear wireless router is in Living room, along with 3 other PCs in the house, and 3 laptops. (yes, that is a 19" rack mounted in my spare bedroom) >One of these days I'll write an app to remotely >control my MP3 queue so I can change and add a playlist Our Linux server has that ability...with over 25 Gigs of MP3's... anyone want an FTP account ?? hehe Yeah, I would consider myself a GEEK too!! - Corn Butthead: Whoa! It's sad seeing all the "I got laid off and all I got was this network switch....." And ya know, if 2 network admins had nothing better to do than lay around on the couch in their boxers while watching Law & Order reruns and post ho at Dz.com, they had better have it wired for soundI promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. skymut 0 #8 July 21, 2002 Dang dude, I am but an apprentice at the feet of the master...of course, it's you and a roommate. I can't imagine what I would have to agree to let my wife have, if I were to get her to agree to let me have that sort of setup in the house. skymut 0 #9 July 21, 2002 I apologize to any ladies who might read this thread, but the best part about wireless has to be the ability to check email while on the can-.
