Newbie 0 #1 July 29, 2002 yup its one of those open ended ones, but advice would be appreciated. Im saving up some money so i can quit my current life and just jump alot, either end of this year or start of next. I reckon i will have enough to make about 200 (non coached) jumps before i start to starve and then will have to work again. If someone handed you a couple hundred jump tickets for any dz in the world, where would you go? Stuff thats important (in no particular order, other than probably safety awareness/attitude and cost of jumps being first) includes air for buck (max alti), great facilities, views, safety awareness, training ,weather, surroundings, people etc etc - all the usual stuff that comes to mind when being able to pick the ideal DZ. I only have 30ish jumps and want to just spend as long a time jumping without working as i can, having fun and learning some RW and free fly skills. Thanks all "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
PhreeZone 20 #2 July 29, 2002 200 jumps huh? Going back to work after only a month if you head to any of the larger DZ's at that rate. 45-80 loads a weekend is slow at Eloy and Perris during the busy season. Personally... I'd just drop all the money into my account at my home DZ because I know that I'll be able to jump with my friends or get on loads at a place thats fimilar to me. Being able to head to a place with nice weather would be nice too.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 July 29, 2002 My home drop zone (Mile-Hi Skydiving in Longmont CO) is reasonable cheap. I believe it has a decent safety record and it has lots of experience jumpers. But the cost of living in Colorado isn't cheap. So that would likely eliminate it from your list of places to go. But if you like mountains, Colorado is a great place to be what with it's awesome weather (you don't want to jump somewhere that is constantly dealing with bad weather) and beautiful scenery. So it's just something to think about. I would think that somewhere like Arizona might be a great place to jump due to it's sunny dry weather conditions throughout the entire year. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Deuce 1 #4 July 29, 2002 For altitude you want a KingAir DZ. 14 to 14.5K altitude. To jump a lot, you want a place that's turning a twin or a Caravan during the week. That eliminates a ton of DZ's. I think you might be down to Arizona, Florida, and L.A. during the winter. If you jump hard, you'll be done in 3 weeks. You could always pack for food and stretch that out
dida 0 #5 July 29, 2002 I know a lot of people that have a great deal of loyalty to The Ranch in Gardiner, NY. if you want cheap, this is the place: $17 to 14,000 or $15 if you become a club member (if you plan on jumping like you say you are, this would definitely be a good idea). SUPER friendly people, exceptional skilled coaches and instructors, beer, pizza, and bonfires. in the immediate area you will find beautiful hiking trails, swimming holes, rock climbing, horseback riding (for those cloudy days)...the only drawback might be your timing. if you are planning to do this during the winter, you're going to freeze your b@lls off. spiral out...keep going... konradptr 0 #6 July 29, 2002 Perris, outside of LA has $14.50 jumps until the end of summer... You won't have a problem getting on every load that you want... Eloy, south of Phoenix, has a deal where jumps are $14.50 anytime, except for the clause that you have to buy a 50-pack, and it has to be used within 7 consecutive days. Super friggin hot in the summer. You won't have a problem getting on every load that you want... I think Denver sucks, the cheapest ticket you can get is $20, no matter how many you buy. You only get 12,000agl, DZs at 5,500' above sea level on a 95 degree day makes for fast approaches, and exiting in the wintertime when the temp at altitude is 50below isn't fun either. Plus, if you try to jump the winter here, you can spend 11 hours at the DZ to get 3 jumps in... PS Perris= 3 Otters/Skyvan Eloy= 3 Otters/Skyvan/DC3/Porter/B18/Balloons/KingAir 100/etc ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... SAMPLEKSample 0 #8 July 29, 2002 Having only been to a few dz's, I will always stand by my original home dz, Skydive Elsinore in so cal...from awesome faciilities, to the greatest vibe! The prices are average...but the instructors are top notch safety and fun freaks...everyone taking you in to teach you as much as they can...the greatest pilots in my opinion, teams, great coaches on every category, and the view is spectacular...especially from one of the two twin otters...one would be a fool to walk from a sunset! I have and plan on spending all my $$$ there! Also, it is only 10 min. to Perris...go to that area, and fly at 2 of the best dz's in the country. Best wishes wherever you chose your flight...were all under the same sky!

PhreeZone 20 #10 July 30, 2002 > A DZ for safety???? Definentaly Skydive Chicago! I think a few people have things to day about this.... But on the topic of safety what one person considers safe another might not. There is a jumper at my DZ that refuses to get on a piston powered airplane, it its not a turbine... she will not jump. Some consider swoop ponds safe, others don't... the list goes on and on. Find your own level of comfort and safety and then find a DZ that matches it.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
