freeflywiggaz 0 #1 July 30, 2002 Coming to you from the depths of the sky, from the back of a front, from the edge of the rainbow....it's the first event of it's kind -- it's the Wiggaz Festival 2002. If you're tired of going low on an eight-way, getting chinned during an eagle, leaving your lens cap on by accident, and having really bad 'Bonehead Hair' days, then this could be the event for you. This is not a decent boogie, this is an indecent boogie. In fact it's a festival. Come along for a totally non-serious celebration of any type of skydiving you want to do, or just come along for the party. There is only one rule: bring your sense of humour and a wig. After all, what could possibly go wrong? We could all have a good time. More info @ http://www.freeflywiggaz.com
goose491 0 #2 July 30, 2002 This is too funny.. Love the intro. I have an old flying wig that I bought on ebay with only 50 jumps on it! I haven't jumped it yet 'cause I haven't been signed out for wig jumping... This site is just what I was looking for My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! narcimund 0 #3 July 30, 2002 Oh man. How disappointing. I was getting all worked up until I found where the boogie is... England! First Class Citizen Twice Over
Zennie 0 #4 July 30, 2002 I'm no PC-fascist by any stretch, but that word (and any other racial epithet, really) has always bothered me. I understand that you're doing a little play on the word here, but still... I mean I understand the concept that the word is trying to articulate. And yeah the people that act that way are pretty lame. I've never understood that whole "I wanna be something I'm not. I wanna look/act like that because it's cool." mentality. Anyway. I'm not gonna ride people's butts about it. You're free to say whatever you want or call it whatever you want, but I wish people would be a little more sensitive to how others might feel. I mean it can be just as fun an humorous without having to resort to quasi-racial epithets. AggieDave 6 #5 July 30, 2002 I think that the term that you're thinking of Zennie, isn't used like that in England, atleast I'm guessing. Maybe it was an honest mistake, if not, then it was a bit of poor taste, although the boogie sounds fun.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freeflywiggaz 0 #6 July 30, 2002 Zennie, you really are getting the wrong end of the stick. The term "Wigga" being used here refers to someone wearing a wig. Its got nothing to do with anyone pretending to be of a different ethnic background/race/colour/religion or anything else you might think. If we had termed our event, the freefly jew festival and jumped with skullcaps without actually being jewish then I could understand why people might get a bit upset. I hope this clears your misunderstanding. Thanks, Rob FreeflyWiggaz
AggieDave 6 #7 July 30, 2002 Rob, Let me clarify for you, in the States, "Wiggers" is a bit of a slur, it stands for White-N***** (I hate that word, not gonna type it). So, that is where Zennie is coming from and I can understand why, but the translation just got lost between the two parties across the pond. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." skreamer 1 #8 July 30, 2002 Uhh Zennie have you actually looked at their web-site? I met both the Wiggaz in Sweden - trust me its all good. Steve "O" Utter and the Flyboyz were happy to jump with them and get issued Wiggaz numbers. I think its a great piss-take on both the Freefly Circus and all the white boy Eminem wannabes at the same time - hopefully people can appreciate that (along with the wig connotation itself). That said, if any PC type should take offence, I don't think these guys will lose too much sleep. I can remember skyhawk taking major shit over the word 'wiggaz' a while back, but this is in an entirely different context. Will PS I'm already registered for their festival and am looking forward to a weekend that I definitely won't remember!!
freeflywiggaz 0 #9 July 30, 2002 I understand that fully, the term wigger is used the same way here in the uk. However, a freeflywigga is a person who skydives with a wig on!!! The freeflywiggaz are 2 guys who do. Anyway, our whole aim is just to have fun, and this isnt....so get registered for the boogie, get across here to the UK, buy a wig and come have a laugh with everyone!!! Laters. AggieDave 6 #10 July 30, 2002 Quoteso get registered for the boogie, get across here to the UK, buy a wig and come have a laugh with everyone!!! I wish I could, it looks really fun! As cool as my truck is, I don't think I could drive to England, I can't swim that far and inflatable raft for jumps probably wouldn't survive the paddling...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." skreamer 1 #11 July 30, 2002 Plus, where are you going to find a wig big enough to fit over your hat???

Zennie 0 #14 July 30, 2002 QuoteThe term "Wigga" being used here refers to someone wearing a wig. Its got nothing to do with anyone pretending to be of a different ethnic background/race/colour/religion or anything else you might think. If that's the case then that's one thing. Still it seems like a poor choice of words. But like I said, I'm not going to ride you about it or anything. I'd just note that there are a number of black folks (a couple of whom I know personally) on these forums who might feel hurt by that. I know people say "It's just a word. Don't be so thin-skinned.". But if you haven't been tormented by that word all your life, been discriminated against on almost a daily basis solely because of something over which you have absolutely no control, you really can't understand. If nothing else, it brings back very painful memories. No one deserves that. One of the most clever plays on words I've seen, and that's sort of in the spirit of what you're doing, is the Muff Brothers. The "Muff" refers to earmuffs, but of course it also has a much more fun connotation. Again, I'm not riding anyone. I'm just pointing something out that may not have been considered. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
