FliegendeWolf 0 #1 July 31, 2002 I wish I had thought to ask my JMs this after my jump. Maybe you guys can clue me in on this. When I left the plane for my level II, I let a lot of time pass before I began my COAs. This was because I didn't think that I was falling stable. I mentioned this to my JMs during the debriefing, but they said they didn't notice any instability - they thought I was falling just fine. I felt unstable because when I was getting my heading, the horizon looked like it was slanting by 5 to 10 degrees left to right. Is this a common occurence? What could cause this if, as the JMs said, there was no problem with the way I was falling?A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
PhreeZone 20 #2 July 31, 2002 Your head was probally tilted. I see it all the time at weird angles... like 180 from normal and a blur as I spin on my back... its not a big deal as long as you don't feel unstable.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
pilotdave 0 #3 July 31, 2002 Was this the few seconds right after exit? Maybe you were still "on the hill." That's when you still have some horizontal speed from the plane, and you haven't reached terminal velocity yet. For a little while, you're not falling straight down but rather following a curve. Just a guess. If it lasted longer than that, maybe the fatter JM was just pulling ya down on one side. Dave
FliegendeWolf 0 #4 July 31, 2002 I think it was longer than that ... maybe ten seconds. I stopped waiting for the horizon to level out after that point and started my COAs. Phreezone may have been right. I've been sitting here tilting my head...it's amazing the how good our eyes are at adjusting for head tilt on the ground. Not so 13K feet up, eh?A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
freeflir29 0 #5 July 31, 2002 I was quite suprised while watching some video of myself lately. I was doing a head down 2 way and noticed that I was manuevering "on the hill." It took 10 or so seconds for me to start falling verticle. The funny part was...I looked at this video immediately after the dive and I didn't even know that I wasn't off the hill yet. It can take a little bit...especially on your belly.
