thrillseek 0 #1 July 30, 2002 Hey everyone...i finally got the website up (and actually working) for my manifest software business...take a look and give me some comments, ok? www.manifestmanager.com
pilotdave 0 #3 July 30, 2002 Looks cool, but $550? Ok, I realize that there is only a tiny market for this type of software, but that seems just a tad on the high side to me. Obviously I've never worked with it or anything, but from the screenshots it looks like something I could pretty easily throw together in MS Access. Wouldn't look as pretty, but I'm pretty sure I could get all the same functionality. If I was running a DZ, I'd want some good info about the robustness of your software before I bought it (even if it was free). How about support? Got an 800 number? By the way, I'm not trying to say your software is no good. Just saying if it IS good, put more info up. Dave
TEB6363 0 #4 July 30, 2002 Looks good enough that it makes me want to buy a DZ.. It is a good looking site!! Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
fasterfaller 0 #5 July 30, 2002 Why make some thing simple like manifesting for a load complex ? When the lines are all filled in , you outa seats .
PhillyKev 0 #6 July 30, 2002 Quotelooks like something I could pretty easily throw together in MS Access I'm pretty sure that is Access. But, if you price what it would cost for an individual dz to pay someone to create a custom db for them in Access, it would probably be more than his asking price. What you may want to do is offer a dumbed down version for cheaper, offer a deluxe version, and then offer customization at an hourly rate. That would give you the largest base of clients. I dunno, skydiving's full of computer people. My job right now is my 3rd summer of creating and editing access databases (for 3 different companies). When I started the first job 2 years ago I had never touched the program before. Now where I work, they consider me the Access guru. I definitely don't consider myself an expert, but heck, if that program could bring in more than $550, maybe I should make this a career path. Hey thrillseek, mind some competition? just kidding...for now. Dave
SkyDaemon 0 #13 July 31, 2002 Cool screenshots, simply UI, looks like you have something there. Good luck marketing the software. :-)find / -name jumpers -print; cat jumpers $USER > manifest; cd /dev/airplane; more altitude; make jump; cd /pub; more beer;
FliegendeWolf 0 #14 July 31, 2002 Actually, $550 does not sound like that much money to me at all for commercially licensed software. I've seen small-market business software run in the thousands.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
PhreeZone 20 #15 July 31, 2002 Right... but your also looking at a market where the difference between a good month and a bad month is a rainy weekend... At a 182 DZ they might only make $500 profit a month.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
FliegendeWolf 0 #16 July 31, 2002 Come on! After at least a couple thousand dollars until one gets their A license, then another 2 or 3 thousand for a rig, and $550 is a lot of money? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
thrillseek 0 #17 July 31, 2002 We are working on a trial version that has limited capabilities for people to try out. As far as cost goes, the man-hours alone would put this product into the $2000-$3000 range. There are some software packages on the market right now that will run you $2500, and nothing in this price range. The programs are difficult to learn for some people. We designed ours with simplicity in mind. Trust me when i tell you that it is NOT easy to just "throw" something like this together. Getting all of the kinks out alone has taken close to 3 months of testing. In the end, if i were on the other end of the deal, i would gladly spend the $550 to have it all done for me. pilotdave 0 #18 July 31, 2002 I was exagerrating about throwing it together... I know how long the "tweaking" stage can be. Of course the cost of software has nothing to do with development time. It has everything to do with intended audience. Good luck selling it though. Dave
